Re: [Felvtalk] FIV/FELV teen awaiting retest, in heat--Do we spay?

2010-08-29 Thread Natalie
Just a quickie about special foods...one of my FIV+ cats. living with three
others in a room, has crystals and to make sure he ate his food, all the
others get it as well. I've noticed that many cats, whenever on special
diets, prefer the dry version to cans. I serve them both - dry portion on
top or right next to the canned - and they always eat it up. Sometimes I
flavor the special diet with a little bit of juices from regular
food...works like a charm! Natalie

since she is in heat, can you keep her seperate from males? give her lots
of love and attention and use Felway to keep the stress level down. i
spayed both of my positive girls. the vet said to keep them seperate for a
week so she could heal. i have had no problems with either girl. Annie and
Nitnoy are treated just like the others, go in and out, eat Blue buffalo
(all prefer the duck formula) and have the run of the house. all my girls
are healthy with 2 exceptions: Homey had urine crystals, would not eat
special diet foods which prompted the change to Blue Buffalo which has no
wheat, soy or corn. she is doing much better now. Bob had a bladder
infection and is on antibiotics (last 3 days) and doing better.
i would say let her settle in with your other cats and then spay her.

Re: [Felvtalk] EVO and high calcium levels

Yeah this is what Cornell suggested with Wolfie. He was anemic
(non-regenerative) and I posted here about whether to pursue it. Decided not
to take the extra blood so I don't know if it was really a problem.

This kitty, Sierra, is stable so it probably wouldn't be a big deal. I asked
my vet about it and she said she'd first rather send the sample out to an
outside lab and verify the high value. Came back high. I'll ask again about
drawing more blood for an ionized calcium.

Thanks!

Because they are all high and not just one of themand they have been for
several years now.

a person or animal is at stake. Society's punishments are small compared to
the wounds we inflict on our soul when we look the other way." ~ Martin
Luther King, Jr.

"Love animals: God has given them the rudiments of thought and joy
untroubled. Do not trouble their joy, don't harass them, don't deprive them
of their happiness, don't work against God's intent. Man, do not pride
yourself on superiority to animals; they are without sin, and you, with your
greatness, defile the earth by your appearance on it, and leave the traces
of your foulness after you - alas, it is true of almost every one of
us!"~Fyodor Dostoyevsky

One of our cats who passed last year was named that and we called her Abby for
