Re: [Felvtalk] Survey
AT WHAT AGE DID YOUR >> CAT BECOME FeLV POSITIVE? We have 3 FeLV+ kitties. All tested positive as kittens. We're taking Darcy, our baby, back to the vet soon for another test to confirm. WHAT TREATMENTS DID YOU DO/ARE DOING? We are giving interferon, a week on and a week off. I'm giving L-lysine in their food. >> WHAT FOOD DO/DID YOU FEED? WHAT LIFESTYLE DO YOUR CATS LEAD, E.G; >> INDOOR, OUTDOOR/BOTH ? LIVE WITH OTHER CATS OR NOT? We tried the more expensive, 'healthier' foods, but our cats just wouldn't make the adjustment. Now I'm feeding the Fancy Feasts that are higher in protein. With 8 cats and one dog, we just can't afford the more expensive foods, especially when our Felv babies are so picky about eating it. They all live indoors exclusively. We do have our Felv+ cats with our negatives. They all get along really well - no fights or scratching - and they were so unhappy being kept isolated from the others, and from us, that we decided to go ahead and mix. So far, so good...of course, we keep the negatives up to date on all shots. HAS YOUR CAT >> HAD/HAVE ANY OTHER ILLNESSES AND OR STRESS IN LIFE? IF SO WHAT? Only Bo, our four year old positive, has had any problems at all, and those have been limited to a couple of mouth sores. When treated, they went away quickly. We do our best to keep their lives as stress-free as possible. >> WHAT AGE IS YOUR CAT NOW? OR WHEN THEY DIED? WHAT DID THEY DIE OF? Bo is almost four. Seven is nearly two. Darcy is still under a year old. All are staying healthy and happy thus far. Oh, such a sweet and inspiring story. Sweet Romeo, may you have an eternity of health and happiness at the Rainbow Bridge. Re: [Felvtalk] Macy and Jack-Jack
Sending positive thoughts and prayers for Macy. I don't have knowledge beyond what others here have shared. Just know you're doing your best for Macy, most importantly, giving your love. So very sorry about Jack-Jack. May he have a gentle journey to the Bridge and find health and happiness there. Our Bo's FeLV+ brother, Cider, developed a fast, savage cancer, paralyzing his back legs as happened to Shadow. We had to make the decision to let him journey to the Bridge but not a day passes that I don't miss him and other kitties no longer with us. We give them love, the best care we can, and trust that we're doing our best. At least they have love, safety, and peace during their time with us. Our prayers for peace and healing go to Michelle and family. Dear Patches, blessings to you at the Bridge. [Felvtalk] New Kitten is FeLV+
Last week, we took in a darling tortie/calico kitten who'd been abandoned at my workplace. At her first vet check today, we got the results that she's FeLV+. We have two other cats that are positive. I would appreciate any tips on how to get this little girl off to the healthiest start possible. We're feeding high protein kitten foods already. Our other cats are doing well at ages 4 and 1 year, but we'd love to learn anything we can to help our newest 'patient' stay healthy and happy. Thanks, Jody ___ Felvtalk mailing list Felvtalk@felineleukemia.org http://felineleukemia.org/mailman/listinfo/felvtalk_felineleukemia.org
Re: [Felvtalk] Cole
My heart breaks for you, Kim. We've lost so many beloved cats in recent years, and it's always so, so difficult. Having the urn will be a comfort, I hope, as it has been for us. Cole had almost seven years with you that he probably wouldn't have had with many other people. He was blessed with you as you were blessed with having had him in your life. It's so hard now, I know. He'll be with you always, and I firmly believe we'll all be with our beloved pets again. Peace be with you... Re: [Felvtalk] Interferon Question
We've been using interferon with our two FeLV positive kitties for over a year now. Our vet said I could give it by mixing it into food, but usually we administer the required dosage in a needless syringe and the kitties just swallow it. (I want to be sure they get all their dose.) So far, both cats are doing well. Bo is almost four now, and Seven is just over a year old. I don't think I have the list that Gloria sent to you, Jane, but I would be very interested in reading it and learning any more that I can. Good luck! Jody > > > Today's Topics: > > 1. [Felvtalk] New Here
Hello! I'm new to this list. My husband and I have two FeLV positive cats. Bo is four, and Seven was a year old in June. We have them both on interferon and have regular well-cat visits with our vets. So far, Bo and Seven are in good health. I have read a lot recently about diets for cats with FeLV. Any tips from the folks here on what to look for in designing a good-health diet for our beloved cats? Glad to be a part of this list!
