I think it probably was a false negative. You can find the vitamin
Mega C Plus here:

Here are some good articles he has written:

Izzie is now positive

2006-07-08 Thread elizamaggie

Hi,
My Lucy was diagnosed 6 weeks ago as positive, her sister, Izzie was negativeand I made the decision to keep them together hoping that she had had it and thrown it off - they are littermates and have been together always. Izzie was spayed yesterday and tested positive. The vet was very surprised and says he thinks the first test must have been a false negative - I'm not sure if he was just trying to make me feel better about deciding to keep them together or not. My question to you folks is this, he said that I should get her re-tested in a few months, that she could still throw it off - has anyone experienced this with a + at 8 months? Also, I looked through the archives and found that some people have used vitamin C to help boost the immune system. Could someone advise me as to how much and how to administer?

The good news is that Lucy has done really well, she's been off antibiotics for 2 1/2 weeks and is still healthy. Three weeks ago it looked like Lucy wouldn't survive another few days. They are eight months old now so I am hopeful that they will stay healthy fora long time.

I haven't posted in a while, but have been following the list. My heart has broken for those of you who have faced losses, my thoughts are with you. I completely agree with Michelle, this is probably the nicest listserv/message board I have ever seen!

Hi Maggie,I'm sorry to hear that Izzie tested positive. I don't have a lot of experience with FeLV+ cats, other than my kitty and my mom's cat, though I have heard that it's possible for a cat to throw off the virus. I'm not a vet, so my opinions don't count for much. However, it'd be good to get both cats, especially Izzie, on low-dose interferon treatments, and possibly Transfer Factor, vitamin C or DMG to help build the immune system.I haven't started my FeLV+ girl on vitamin C yet, though I have some downstairs that we'll be going with soon. I believe she gets 1/16th to 1/8th of a teaspoon of it per day. It's Halo's Xtra C. A good place to start for all of this might be with Anitra Frazier's book, The New Natural Cat.Lance
