Re: Need prayers for Lucy

2006-10-30 Thread Kerry Roach
Hi Michelle, I hope Lucy is feeling better this morning...I just read the latest, and I agree with Nina, that she might not have needed any added fluids yet..I would give her some metronidazole if you have some...It is flagyl.. Inky has another loose stool as well so I gave him some metro and upped the pred to 10mg again...I gave him the 7.5mg on Sat, but I went ahead and started with the higher dose...He wants to eat too much is his problem...and it is very hard for me to not give him what he wants...I really think this is what started his loose stool last week..I guess it is a good thing that he meows at me and wants more, but sad on my part to not give it to him cause I know what will happen.. Anyway, I hope you get some answers when you get in touch with your vet. Keep us posted...Head butts from my crew to yours, You are in our thoughts and prayers, Kerry, Bandy and Inky..
Also, Bandy has been sick with runny stool last 5 days and have given him some metro, too...He never gets that..and he threw up, too...That is a first for him so I hope I have gotten him back on track...the ringworm meds, I think are taking a toll on him as we just can't tottally get rid of it..as yet..No fever though since Aug. 5...that was a long 14 months with the up and down fevers..So fingers crossed that it stays down...

Need prayers for Lucy

2006-10-29 Thread Lernermichelle

Lucy's diarrhea has gotten significantly worse-- she had a large quantity
of liquid diarrhea 5 times today. She also vomited up the raw food that I
syringed her, about 5 hours after she ate it. She is purry and able to go
up and down stairs, but a bit out of it. I will call the vet in the am as
soon as they open. Please send her energy, prayers, etc.

I gave her about 100 ml of fluids this morning. Do you think I should give
her more? I am not force-feeding her any more today and have removed all
food, hoping that by fasting her for 12-18 hours it will stop the diarrhea. This
has worked for her before, and is recommended on a lot of websites.

I have to believe this is from the antibiotics, as she had been doing well
before getting the URI and going on antibiotics, and on day 4 of clavamox she
suddenly went from completely solid stools to complete liquid, with no
in-between. I am assuming that it happened from accumulated effect of the
clavamox. I am hoping, anyway. Probiotics did not nothing, and may have made her
worse, as she is worse today than she was yesterday.

If anyone has any thoughts about whether or not I should give her more
fluids, please let me know. Otherwise, I am not giving her anything else
tonight, will talk to the vet in the morning and plan to fast her, and then will
see if she will eat some cooked turkey with fiber powder mixed in (her usual
fare is cooked turkey with fiber and bone meal and taurine, E, and B vitamins
mixed in).

I am quite worried about her. Last night, despite having had diarrhea
in the morning, she was very perky and playful, and this morning came running to
see me in the morning. She has declined through the day with increased
diarrhea. She likes me to pet her, and she purrs a lot, but is pretty
wiped out. As I guess would be expected from diarrhea and vomiting.

Thanks,
Michelle

Michelle --

I wish I had some advice, but Lucy's condition is way beyond my
expertise. Please just know that I'm vibing that the diarrhea stops and
her little body gets back in whack.

Just watch her for dehydration. Sub-Q would be better than orally, if she's
not holding anything in that way. Sending healing vibes for her! Try sub-Q
fluids. Maybe just plain boiled chicken (or even raw?)... TINY amounts
though.

2006-10-29 Thread Lance

Michelle,

I'm so sorry to hear Lucy is having such bad bowel troubles. I hope
it's the antibiotic. Seems like a likely culprit. I think fasting for
12-18 hours is a very good idea. I've done this with Ember, and I
think it helps them gain some ground, and those intestines get a
break they really need from all the violence going on down there.
Can't imagine why liquids would be a problem. I'm fairly sure I've
not taken up Ember's water when she's had diarrhea; just the food.
Prayers for Lucy's speedy recuperation.

Prayers that Lucy is just worn out from being sick and that she bounces
back very soon. Is she drinking water on her own? If she's hydrated, I
don't think I'd give her anymore fluid right now. It just seems the
extra fluid, esp on a fast, won't help diarrhea. It's just a gut
impulse, I don't know if it has anything to do with what might really
help her. I'll be anxiously awaiting your post that tells us she's
feeling better and pooping better too.

Dear Michelle my prayers are with
you and Lucy and will be visualizing Lucy feeling great very very soon. You
might want to pull her skin and see how dehydrated she is so that it will give
you a better idea whether she needs more fluid or not. Have you tried slippery
elm it will sooth the tummy I think its form clavomox it does
to some cats.. she is basically getting all the bad stuff out of her system
is she running any fever or anything -- ? And I am so sure that she is
eahustend from vomiting and having loose stools.. when I got think and I had to
throw up, it wiped me out, too..

Keep us posted --- Michelle dont
worry too much, but keep only the positive thoughts Lucy is very strong
.. she is going to be just just fine.
