I have a polydactyl cat (Siamese mix) who has one
extra toe on each foot.  The two nails on those two
extra toes on the front paws grow towards the
underside of her paw, not outwardly like a normal
cat's claws. They eventually grow INTO the padding of
LuLu's paws if I do not clip them about 2-4 times per
year.  So yes, claws can be ingrown in a feline.  And
yes, it is a must that I trim them.  It's impossible
for her to use a scratching post for these two nails. 
Trimming nails is just fine to me, as long as it's
done right.  

If you're into the all-natural, no interferance type
of living, then you can't be for pts.
