I do agree with you on some level.  When I was feeding my little group of strays-ferals, there were several who showed up that were so sick or injured, trapping was very easy but unfortunately the most humane thing was euthenasia.  Its not a good life for a cat on his own and you don’t see too many old strays.  Just in the two years I was feeding my group, 2 of them simply vanished—sick, injured, I’ll never know.  TNR programs seem fine as long as there is some sort of plan to feed every day, provide shelter, provide regular med care, etc.  Too often it seems to me that some programs are a little haphazard in maintaining these commitments and while the cats may have a short burst of good food, etc., they ultimately are left to their own devices.  To me, if you’re going to start giving an animal the care it deserves, well it’s a commitment you can’t walk away from.  I sort of fell into my little group & let me tell you it was no easy feat.  I ended up keeping two of them myself (who would take them???) & lucked out on homes for another two.  But it took 2 years of twice a day feedings, coverage when I was away, vet bills, and on and on.  I was lucky to have good friends, that the kitties were in a relatively safe & convenient place..  The group that neutered them when I trapped them insisted on returning them to the site saying they were ‘feral’.  Well, my feral Big Boy is lying sprawled out on my bed right now impatiently waiting to curl up against me when I go to sleep.

I'm not saying all ferals should be trapped and killed.  I had  a feral cat for years (in the house), and I have 2 feral dogs I trapped (that are still feral) right now.

I'm just saying, in my opinion there are some things worse than death.  And I've seen animals in horrible shape that were in my opinion, better off to be euthanized than suffer.  If a feral is in a dangerous place I think it would rather be euthanized than eaten by dogs or hit by a car if it had a choice....

Unless you can find a VERY safe place for the ferals and be sure
there's someone to take care of them, I tend to agree with PETA.
Even if the ferals have someone 'watching out' for them, I'm sure
many of them are killed by dogs, hit by cars, shot, etc.... I
think it's a very rough life for most ferals and in many cases it
would have been better to put them to sleep.  I see their point of
view.

I can not believe PETA!!!!!!!  They used to be known as the most
radical animal rights group around (at the time that I did belong
to them).  This is welfarism at its very, very worst.  How can a
group that says it is an animal rights group advocate catching and
killing animals? Isn't the right to live out your life without
being killed the most basic of rights? Without that right, what
good is any other? They are insane.  I stopped contributing to
them years ago based on other stances they took that I thought
were crazy, but their position on ferals tops the cake.
