Oh, and I have heard high blood pressure can also cause uneven/dilated
pupils...could probably have a variety of causes.

problems and to me it looked more normal after Toxo treatment.

and breathing heavy - I have central air and keep it on all the time. The
last time she did this, it was actually very cool in her room.
The other one had seizures one day several months ago - that was the one
and only time that occured. But several months ago, his 3rd eyelid (on both
eyes) started staying out. He can still see but not too well.

Is there anything I need to do or is this just part of the disease? There
are no other symptoms for either one of them at this time.

2009-08-13 Thread Gloria B. Lane
If they have trouble breathing consistently, I figure it's lymphoma
and take them to the vet usually to have fluid removed. At times,
I've had chemo (vincristine, or whatever), but ultimately they pass
on. The fluid can buy a little time. If they start becoming
neurological I haven't developed any options except to watch and wait
and pts when time. If they act healthy, of course, I figure they can
hang around and enjoy life a bit longer.

Bailey had uneven pupils all of his 11 years off and on. He was
healthy up until the last 6 months of his life, so his pupils being
uneven was for no health reason that we knew of.

I too am more concerned about the panting as is a sign of anemia which these
cats are prone to getting and can kill them. If your cat does have anemia
make sure she is is checked for haemobart which is treatable. It will not
always show up when they test so most choose to treat for even if the test
is negative.

Junior was panting on his last day. He had fought a long hard fight and was
not up for heroic treatment. His spirit is free and I stay on the group to
offer help when I feel I may have something to add. This group is the reason
he was not euthanized when first diagnosed. He lived about 1.5 years and was
5 when he left me. Tiny is half brother unfortunately only lived a couple
months he too was 5 when he passed on.

Junior also had eye problems but was due to an injury prior to the FELv dx.
He went on to develop a corneal ulcer and glaucoma. He was already blind in
that eye.

Thanks

When Charlotte began to decline, one of my first clues that something was
amiss was her heavy breathing. My vet said that this was a result of severe
anemia. Even though she had a blood transfusion and seemed to become more alert
and comfortable during her last month, the heavy breathing remained until the
end.
