A month ago she got a fast-acting steroid shot (one that would be out of her system in a couple of days) and a week and a half of ammoxi drops. Those are the only treatments she's had besides weekly Acemannan, B12 shots, and a lot of prayer sinceshe was diagnosed nearlyfive weeks ago. At the time they told me that she was very sick and would probably not recover...that she was very anemic (based on observation - they really didn't want to take any more blood than was necessary) and that because she wasn't running a fever it was an indication that her immune system wasn't strong enough to fight off secondary infections...and that I should think about saying goodbye. She had lost 14% of her body weight.Whatever the cause of her improvement, I am so grateful. I amalso so thankful to all of you for your comments and suggestions. Even if other studies were done and didn't show the same outcome - I would want to read that too. I will be watching carefully to make sure she isn't becoming lethargic and that she still feels good. Still taking one day at a time and grateful for the good days.Kitty kisses to you all.
Re: Update on MK
Elizabeth, Congratulations on MK's best update yet! I guess the Acemannan does have it's benefits, and if Texas AM took the time to do a study on it, I think that in and of itself is cause for us to consider it as a viable healing tool. The fact that the anemia turned around is the most notable and exciting part of MK's improvement, because the anemia is so many times the downfall of these wonderful FeLV+ furbabies. Way to go MK! I think it is too cute that she is Pet of the Month. Every vet should do that! :) Wendy __ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Mail has the best spam protection around http://mail.yahoo.com

Re: Update on MK
Great news about MK! You definitely should be proud if she can take those abdominal shots. I'm pretty sure she's tougher than me. Icing on the cake to have her attain the title of Pet of the Month. As for donations for testing treatments, I've wondered about this myself. I joined up with Cornell, I think as a supporting member or something. I seem to remember reading here or perhaps in their newsletter that they had to cut testing a treatment for either FIV or anemia due to lack of participation (not money but participation). That's too bad. You'd think there would be enough cats who might benefit fairly close to where they are. I'd be happy if we could just get Virbagen Omega in the States without all the hassle.
