[FFmpeg-user] Is FATE testing video encoders?

2017-02-21 Thread Radhakrishnan Venugopal Rajaganesan
Hi,
I have a doubt regarding ffmpeg FATE. I have downloaded the fate sample
suite. Inside the sample suite i found only .bit files inside the
hevc-conformance/ folder.
I checked the hevc.mak file inside tests/fate/ directory. Here, it is
checking only hevc decoder. It is decoding the .bit samples files and
calculating crc. Below is a command line in hevc.mak file:

fate-hevc-conformance-$(1): CMD = framecrc -flags unaligned -vsync drop -i
$(TARGET_SAMPLES)/hevc-conformance/$(1).bit

The same case with h264.mak file. Here also only decoder part is tested.
why FATE is checking only hevc decoder? . Or in any other place is it
checking video encoders?
Is FATE checking external libraries like x264 or x265?

The reason is that FFmpeg does not contain a (native) hevc encoder.
Since I have another version of all hevc encoders on my system than
you, it would no be possible to write a test that works on both my and
your system.

[FFmpeg-user] How do bitrate, FPS, and speed interact?

2017-02-21 Thread christina zou
Hi,

I have a pretty simple question.

I am recording video via 'raspivid' and sending it to FFMPEG to stream to
the internet.

At the settings 750Kbps, 15FPS, 720P (specified in both raspivid and
FFMPEG) I get reliable performance.

If I bump the bitrate to 1Mbps in both raspivid and FFMPEG, then FFMPEG's
stderr tells me that it hits 1Mbps, but the speed is reported around 0.67x
and my FPS is ~10, 2/3 of my target FPS.

My CPU usage doesn't go above 25%, and my wifi is capable of at max 5Mbps
upload speed, far higher than the 1Mbps video bitrate I'm attempting.

I'm trying to understand what is happening when Ffmpeg manages to hit my
specified higher video bitrates, but at the sacrifice of FPS and speed. Is
this because my internet is too slow?

My command: http://vpaste.net/kl3Vi

[FFmpeg-user] -c:v or -vcodec copy or -codec:v

2017-02-21 Thread Tim Hiles
Hi all,

What is the deal with all the different ways to copy? Do they all do the
same thing? Cause if not, it is NOT clear what they are and if soseems
like a lot of redundancy.

Thanks!
