[FFmpeg-user] Problems with ffmpeg on Windows 10

2019-05-03 Thread Spencer Graves

Hello:

I could use your help with three problems:

IMMEDIATE BLOCK:  I downloaded wzdu53.exe to a Windows 10 machine.
However, when I double-click on it, a little circle goes around for a
fraction of a second and then stops.  What do you suggest I try to get
past this?

WHY DO I CARE ABOUT wzdu53.exe?  I'm trying to upgrade ffmpeg, and the
standard instructions tells me to install wzdu53.exe and let it do the
update.

WHY DO I NEED TO UPDATE ffmpeg?  I was running "ffmpeg -i input.mp4
output.WebM", which I've done successfully on this same computer in the
past.  This time, it progressed to frame 15922 and then stopped
progressing.  A half hour later, I killed it.

  Thanks,
  Spencer Graves

Re: [FFmpeg-user] Licensing fees

2019-09-22 Thread Spencer Graves

The Wikipedia article on FFmpeg says, "License:  LGPL 2.1+, GPL 2+
Unredistributable if compiled with NVIDIA Performance Primitives." That
comment has a footnote saying, "FFmpeg can be configured to make it
proprietary and unredistributable software, because NVIDIA Performance
Primitives, an optional external library, is proprietary software and
cannot be distributed under the terms of the GPL."

        1.  If anyone has any information that contradicts this, I
want to know -- especially I want a solid, reputable source that can be
cited in that Wikipedia article.

        2.  Otherwise, this would seem to answer the question: You
should read the LGPL and GPL and perhaps consult an attorney, but I
think this means that a small company can bundle their proprietary
software with FFMPEG, and distribute their device without paying a
license fee to FFmpeg.  Of course, if the product is successful, one
might expect that the small company donates to FFmpeg and may even pay
some of their own people to help develop FFmpeg so it becomes a better
product for everyone else in the future.

Hello,

In case a small company needs to include the ffmpeg into an application
which runs on Raspbian, and probably will commercialize the Pi3/Pi4 device,
I would like to know what will be the the "licensing fees" needed to be
paid.

Thank you.

[FFmpeg-user] trouble shooting defective FFmpeg install on Windows 10?

2019-09-26 Thread Spencer Graves

Hello:

What would you suggest I do to troubleshoot a defective install
of FFmpeg for Audacity on Windows 10?

A colleague installed FFmpeg for Audacity 2.2.2 on a Windows 10
computer.  Edit > Preferences > Libraries > "FFmpeg Library:" =
"C:\Program Files (x86)\FFmpeg for Audacity\avformat-55.dll".

When we did File > Open (or Import) > [a *.MOV file], we got a
message saying FFmpeg for Audacity was required.  But we have it.

I'm not sure, but I believe we installed it following the
instructions on
"https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/installing_and_updating_audacity_on_windows.html#winff";.

  Thanks,
  Spencer Graves
p.s.  A week ago I installed FFmpeg for Audacity successfully for
computers running Windows 7 and 10 and for macOS 10.14.6.  Now I try
what I think was the same procedure on a friend's Windows 10, and it fails.
