Don't seem to be able to find this in the OED. Are you sure? -Original Message- A Forest is a haphazard place with trees chaotically distributed amongst undergrowth. So you don't like him, is that the message? -Original Message- snip Now when Ed withdrew from comp.periphs.scanners and from this list, I can only count on your knowledge and your good will of sharing it with me. But it is our time which is spent on VueScan instead of Ed Hamrick's. I don't like Ed's attitude: sort of I don't have time, find out yourself if you don't know something Regards Tomek Zakrzewski P.S. I think I risk very little. [filmscanners] RE: Question for 2450 owners
But for proofing purposes you can put your 35mm slides/negs in the scanner just in their see through bags. I can do a whole film in two scans like this. I don't really use 35mm now, but it's a good way of proofing all those old boxes of negatives from your yoof. Unless of course you are a yoof. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] On Behalf Of Godfrey DiGiorgi Sent: 11 March 2002 10:44 To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [filmscanners] Re: Question for 2450 owners Using the holders, 12 35mm negatives in one pass, or four slides. Of course, they'd all be done at the same settings and would be mostly useless. I always scan one frame at a time. I remember a reference that implied it could do 36 at a time! -- Clive Moss - Original Message - The 2450 comes with three film holders. One handles 120 formats (up to 6x9 format, in film strips) and 4x5. The second handles mounted 35mm slides (2x2 mounts). The third handles 35mm negs or transparencies up to two strips of 6 frames in length. [filmscanners] RE: profiling
I know from offline conversations I've had with one or two of you that - for those of us who are not professional - the business of scanner/monitor/printer profiling is a bit of a problem. I eventually used material I found on http://www.computer-darkroom.com/, but I've got an Epson 1290, which was covered there. Some other printers aren't. Of course you can buy a profiling kit, which will cost about the same again as an Epson 2450 or two, or possibly a year or two's worth of film. Not very practical. I also found http://www.littlecms.com/profilers.htm which offers a copyright free free profiling set. This is very good, and very generous of the authors. Now for all the people who are thinking, 'we knew that, why's he telling us?' please remember I and several others didn't. Books -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] On Behalf Of Edward P. Richards Sent: 09 March 2002 14:56 To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [filmscanners] Flattening negatives Any good tips for flattening negatives before you scan them? When I get negatives back from the lab, they have a pronounced side to side curl that makes loading theming to the scanner a problem, much less getting good edge to edge resolution. Pre-flattening seems a much better option than glass carriers or new scanners. Thanks! [filmscanners] RE: I hardly dare mention Hard Drives
I think you must have missed the post I made about 36 hrs ago, Art, saying thanks to all (include yourself!). I managed to cure the problem by a bit of tweaking (guided by a list member) in Windows XP. The machine always 'saw' the drive, it's just that quite a bit of it was never allocated. Don't ask me why, but it is now happily humming away as a jolly big scratch drive. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] On Behalf Of Arthur Entlich Sent: 23 February 2002 12:29 To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [filmscanners] Re: I hardly dare mention Hard Drives I'm the local armchair expert on everything. Ask Moreno. IDE drives when through an evolution. Computers made before 8/94 were typically restricted in their BIOS to acknowledging 528 MB drives. After that, until about 1996 drives were only recognized in BIOS up to 2.1 gigs. Then DOS 6.X and Win 3.1 had a limit of 8.4 GB. Any of these can cause the problem. To fix it there are a number of possible fixes. Updating your OS if it is stuck at 8.4 gig. Some computers have flash memory BIOS and just need a firmware flash upgrade which may be available at the motherboard's manufacturer's website. Some can be adjusted within BIOS and it is just a matter of changing some settings. Some computer require a literal BIOS chip replacement to make this repair in firmware. However, most hard drives today come with a small software patch on a floppy disk which allows for a software fix that loads during boot up. If your harddrive came with a manual or installation instructions check them, as this is usually discussed. If it came with some installation software, it probably has the patch with it. Some drives require different jumper settings dependent upon how you go about fixing the problem, and occasionally the patch can cause your system to hang, and you may need to contact the manufacturer of your motherboard or the drive company. Thanks very much for the replies, chaps. I have been using the wrong file system, I am informed, and with the right file system the other 36 Gb appears like magic. [filmscanners] RE: Multi-coloured lines in images...
So you don't like it? and the final sentence is ... not repairable , frow it in the GARBAGE ! ... (and actually the TRASH is the PROPER PLACE for THIS HP STUFF !) ... I have been ripped following the ads of HP and is reputation (quite amazing how this kind of brand can have such a reputation with stuff like this sold in the marketplace) ... the scan was NEVER able to scan a slide despite the specifications ... then I discovered the feature being a simple MIRROR !! ... such a cheat ! the installation always being TRICKY under W98 and almost impossible in the proper way the operations always randomly working / crashing and the past 6 months with 2 big brown/multicolor bands on the scans ... I will never buy an HP product any more and I strongly suggest everybody to look for other brands more serious , with better and more reliable products , LAST BUT NOT LEAST with a BETTER CUSTOMER CARE OVERALL !
