I therefore propose a few revisions to the list charter. You have earned my instant respect with such enlightened administrative decisions. I'm certain this new policy will work out perfectly. I have marked my calendar appropriately. I feel much better, since I'm usually out of Wednesdays ;-) However, I'm not sure it is fair to limit the my wife is divorcing me because... threads to just one reason and to just one day. These are matters that could be termed emergencies by some, that can't wait a week. Of course, not as big a crisis as, say, my scanner won't initialize but still emotionally trying. Further, I believe it is rather sexist to assume that there are no men divorcing their wives because they are on the internet shopping channel too much (or was that ebay antiques?) Being Saturday, let me add the following: I can't find that virus and giant sig I meant to attach to this posting, as the CD-R it was on doesn't read properly anymore, (I KNEW they didn't last!) If the quote below is cut, it was due to a bug in Netscape, and I'm out of the office until Monday, at which point I want off this list! ;-) Art [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Naturally I have received a complaint about my summary blockage of the Hard Disk Speed thread. Also, would it not be a good idea for you to be able to remote-zap offenders' hard disks - again regardless of sort or make? Apart from these minor things, great! I'm confident that it will create much needed order on an otherwise chaotic list. Maybe rather we should impose a convention of a subject name prefixes, e.g. V: subject for Vuescan etc., so that the relevant messages may be forwarded directly a specific folder while the rest to a pending folder for occasional browsing, including the one called trash for no browsing at all? Anyway, I think that the enormous interest in Vuescan and the amount of traffic justifies a separate newsgroup or a maillist for support of this product. Maybe Ed should take a look at people like Steve Gibson who runs his own news server news.grc.com with success. Just add this server and take a look at the traffic there! People like to talk technology there because the messages are long living and the speed is excellent. But even there Steve Gibson was forced to pull the plug on people talking about politics and insulting each other by introducing a special group for any-chat and deleting all off-topic messages till visitors have embraced some charter conforming behavior.
