Or, try a search on the XP Home home page for ieee 1394 for other references

OK, let's put this one to sleep.

I just threw my wife off her computer (I'll pay for that) and rebooted XP
Home (she's dual booting Me until she gets everything over). I went into
Add Hardware and told it I would manually select the device.

Clear as day, there was a choice for an IEEE 1394 Controller.

So, Windows XP Home DEFINITELY includes drivers for Firewire.

Although this has already been beaten to death and there have been several
links to Microsoft's site showing it was posted, I can now personally
comfirm support.

Mark,

Sometimes we all need our hand held and for me this is a time.I have
read in some review although forgotten where, that the Home edition
does NOT include IEEE1394. Now you are still saying that it does.
However like me you do not provide a reference. So lets leave it like

That's the point - there is no difference between Pro and Home where
Firewire is concerned. It's supported on both. If any particular device
isn't supported, it's because it needs 3rd-party drivers, and it won't

RE: filmscanners: Firewire IEEE1394

The following like (USA I admit) says Minolta does support both SCSI and
Firewire.

http://www.minoltausa.com/main.asp?productID=888&whichProductSection=1&whichSect
ion=2

The following link say MSFT Home version of XP does support Fire Wire.

http://www.microsoft.com/WINDOWSXP/home/evaluation/overviews/hardware.asp

I seriously doubt their features are disconnected in the UK.

I am not surprised Minolta (and many other hardware people) currently say they
don't support Windows XP. That is a very different statement then saying their
hardware will not function with Windows XP. Keep in mind the follow:

#1 Windows XP in terms of hardware support does everything Windows 2000 does
and more.
#2 Windows XP has an "adjustment" so that it can "look like" windows 98 to
either software or hardware. This setting can be made specifically for items on
your PC, not just a general adjustment.
#3 Minolta and many other hardware people have only had a final copy of XP for
a few days. I would hope they would spend a few weeks checking out various
issues before they claim all is well in computer land. As an example, Nikon has
posted on their site what scanners will and will not be supported for Windows
XP. They also have said they plan on getting drivers posted during November.
(Either directly or by implication they suggest the current software will not
work with XP; however, it is clear many scanners do with with XP although it may
be necessary to have a specific version of the scanner software.)

To be supported out of the box in Win2K your firewire card must be listed as:
"Texas Instruments (refers specifically to the chipset not the OEM) OHCI

Generally the drivers you want are prepared/written by the company that
manufacturers the card. They are included in Windows if there is enough demand
or need. I recall reading then there is a cut off for hardware that is more
then two years old. So unless your Firewire card was manufactured in 2000 or
2001, you may be out of luck. In any case, your best be would be the card

items don't run on the card versions of Firewire. I don't know whether the
