Norman, your email client prolly has a rule that transfers messages sent via
the filmscanners list to your Filmscanners folder.

You will need to create a new rule that takes account of the different
routing that messages now undergo.

2001-12-22 Thread Jawed Ashraf

Just thought I'd bring to everyone's attention the following message that
now appears on the US webby:

OOPS!

The registry key file for the regsweep application was not included in the
original Nikon Scan 3.12 download for Windows. This file is NOT required for
Macintosh systems.

If you downloaded this update prior to 7:30 PM on 12/18/2001 please
download the Utility folder, which contains the regsweep application,
readme file and key file.

The site http://www.nikontechusa.com says this is for Windows
XP. Did you find that it improved your Win2K version's performance?

It's only been 24 hours since I installed NikonScan NS) 3.12 so there's
not enough mileage on it yet to judge its performance.

After I find all the tweaks to rid WinXP of its annoying middleware,
goofy user interface, Passport prompts and MSN Messenger I'll install it
in a dual-boot scenario with Win2K and give NS a good test in both
environments. Having worked at Microsoft for six years I know enough to
be cynical about everything that they do.

So far I've successfully avoided reinstalling Win2K. I just don't have
the time to reinstall all my apps, re-do the performance tweaks and
whatnot. I've done a lot of performance hacks in the registry and don't
want to repeat all those either.

You can often refresh a Win2K installation by: 1) reinstalling major
device drivers; 2) reinstalling the latest version of IE plus any
associated Service Packs; and 3) refreshing system files by running the
command SFC /Scannow from a Command Prompt window. Those were the only
steps that I took to correct problems in my Win2K installation. So far,
it's been running since March 2000 without needing to be reinstalled.

The newest version of NikonScan no longer requires you to uninstall the
earlier version. Just extract the files, run Setup and you're done.

I made registry snapshots before and after installing NS version 3.12
with ConfigSafe Complete Recovery 4.0. Examination of the keys that NS
uses shows no compelling reason to do that with this version. As I'm
very likely the only person on this list who's written an entire book on
the NT registry I think I can say that with some authority;-)

If I recall correctly prior NS versions prompted users to uninstall
earlier versions. However, this version no longer does that so it's just
a waste of time. I was able to use NS 3.12 immediately after running
setup without any problems at all. If it makes anyone feel better then
go ahead and run regsweep. It won't hurt anything.
