It will also hurt used sales of these...or create bargains for people who don't mind living with the defect. It's probably the usual problem of someone (or several people) quite influential in the organisation either not understanding the full implications of the issue or not wanting to admit they screwed up. Therefore they are not prepared to find the resource (ultimately money) to fix it. They will often pretend it doesn't exist. The argument usually goes "We sell lots of units with few returns, so what's the problem". Typical short term profit view. George, There are links to several reviews from the following Polaroid web page. http://home.polaroid.co.uk/sprintscan/ Additionally Ian Lyons has done a review on his web page. www.computer-darkroom.com David -Original Message- From: G. In particular, how does it compare with Nikon 8000 ED? Are there any pitfalls about attaching this scanner to a fairly normal PC? George Harrison

The "fix", if you could call it that, is to scan in superfine mode. There is a slight quality increase in superfine mode, so it's not a bad trade-off. I'd much rather have ICE and GEM available, and occasionally scan in superfine mode when needed, than not to have those features at all.

You should note the question contains the word "sometimes" and "minimise" and a disclaimer at the end. They only have 4 FAQ's on the web site and this is one. Its an obvious problem to them which they want to ignore. LS-8000 Frequently Asked Questions (Last modified: (11/10/2001) This document (11414)is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document. Question. Sometimes I get very fine lines in my final scan. Is there a way to minimise this? Answer Yes. In Tool Palette>Scanner Extras tick the check box beside Extra Fine Scan Mode. This will remove the fine lines but overall the scan time will be longer. Thanks Lawrence Thats not good if big enlargements are required and I don't think that I could put up with that. Ill contact Nikon (Maxwells) now and see if they have come up with a fix or intend to come up with a fix. Should be interesting. Ill post there reply. RE: filmscanners: Re: LS8000 Banding Question
Lawrence. Curious. I have seen exactly the same banding on my Artixscan 400T when scanning one set of Kodachrome 64 slides, all being of the same subject. But not on any other slides. From what I understand, fixing it would require a firmware modification to both calibrate three lines instead of one, and then to use three calibration lines instead of one. Having written a LOT of embedded firmware, and designed a few scanners, I just can't imagine what their problem is. My only guess is there is something else that prohibits them from fixing it...what, I don't know... Did they happen to mention WHY they won't fix it?
