As far as 6 ink printers for the Cone system are concerned,
I understand the extra inks have no benefit in output

cartridges, not in bulk for use through a continuous inking
 system.

I have heard the 6 ink version are much less prone to banding

the Cone quadtone inks? Thanks

Beware Cone quadtone setup for Epson 3000 - the inks are great, but the
driver overdrives the printer, which can never keep up and produces banding
no matter what... if you go with Cone inks, probably one of hte 6 ink printer
will give better results...

Getting off the filmscanning topic, but worth saying, I
think:

From reading the Piezography mailing list, not from
practical experience, I understand that banding can happen
with this system because of slightly inaccurate paper
feeding. Some Epson 3000 printers misbehave in this way, and
some don't. With the Epson 1160 printer this problem is less
prevalent.

As far as 6 ink printers for the Cone system are concerned,
I understand the extra inks have no benefit in output
quality. On the downside, the 6 ink set is available only in
cartridges, not in bulk for use through a continuous inking
system.
