Re: [Finale] HP Update for Finale 2007

2007-07-27 Thread dhbailey
I don't recall seeing any mention of it on this list, nor have I
received any mention via e-mail from MakeMusic. How hard would it be
for them to send out an e-mail to everybody who has upgraded to Fin2007?

Thank you for letting us know about it -- I don't have those libraries
so it won't help me, but it would be nice to be notified by the company
about such things.

I don't recall it being mentioned on the list, and in fact, I only knew
to look for it because Robert PiƩchaud mentioned something about it in
our private correspondence. But it's out now, available by searching for
"Finale 2007" at:

http://www.finalemusic.com/downloads/index.asp

Here is the description:

The Human Playback update is a free, downloadable update available to
registered Finale 2007c users. It provides support for Human Playback
when using the following additional libraries with Finale 2007c:
Garritan Jazz and Big Band, Gofriller Solo Cello, and Garritan
Personal Orchestra (if using KONTAKT 2.2). It is not needed if you are
using the Finale Edition of Garritan sounds that were included with
Finale 2007. This update requires a registered installation of Finale
2007c.

[Finale] Text Blocks in the Right Place

2007-07-27 Thread Patrick Sheehan
I'm working with an organ score that needs to have many text boxes for
instructions, etc. When I print out the score (no part extraction needed), I
want the boxes to be exactly where they are in the score layout, not offset
somewhere else; this has happened when I've used Text Blocks in the past. Is
there a way to make this setting?

Text boxes made with the Text Tool (looks like an A) will attach to
measures in scroll view, and to the PAGE if you enter them in page
view. In my opinion, there is no good reason to use the Text Tool for
instructions, with one exception. The Text Tool should be renamed
Title Tool, because that is what it does best. The Expression Tool
(looks like an mf) has everything the Text Tool has, except centre
justification of text (this is the one reason to use the Text Tool)
and everything stays attached to measures or notes, depending on how
you enter it. This way you can extract parts and change layout to
your heart's content, and the instructions stay attached to the
measure or note they were originally attached to.

Are you entering them in page view? If so, they will stay where you put
them. If not, they will move with the associated measures when the score is
respaced in any way.

Unless I'm misunderstanding your question.

I actually dislike the expression tool because it has no page attachment. I
use the text tool in any situation where the material isn't supposed to be
anchored to a measure or other item.

Finale's needed a template system for a long time, with at least a master
page layer, a page-based layer, a movable line-based layer (now
unfortunately measure-based), an object-based layer, and a user-definable
layer.

There is no reason that expressions, for example, should be attached to
measures or notes. They should be able to be attached to anything (and
should -- repeating this for the umpteenth time) *show* the ownership
through some sort of rubber-band indicator.

I also wish there were a doggone LOCK, where the program would be forbidden
to move any item at all on a given page, even during layout updates. A
point-to-point marquee selection, for example, that would put a light grey
block over an area or page that was untouchable -- and keep it that way.

Having yet another bad day,
Dennis

Thanks for letting us know about this, Darcy. I hope it will fix some
playback problems I've been having with bass part playback using JABB.
