[Finale] Re: Need MIDI keyboard advice

2010-04-23 Thread David Froom

I am very partial to the I2 GarageKey

http://kellysmusicandcomputers.com/productinfo~s~I2-GARAGEKEY-37-
KEYBOARD~p~1255036852.htm

It has 37 keys, but, really, nothing else except 8va up/down buttons.
What I like about it best is that it can sit comfortably on its feet
behind and above my computer keyboard, and is designed so the computer
keyboard can slide under it. So no need to have it at right angles.

It feels flimsy, but I have had mine for five years with no problems.
I got 10 for my college's computer lab two years ago, and with student
use, they've still been (mostly) fine (one didn't survive multiple
times of being dropped on a hard floor).

They are about $90.

USB powered, as simple as you can possible make a keyboard, no extra/
wasted space. I was able to take the feet off and put in a suitcase
for traveling (I've taken it to Europe a couple of times).

I'm a pianist -- but I wouldn't want to perform on anything electric.
Once one makes the move to electronic, it is all bad. Yamaha is
getting closer with its AvantGrand, but there is still a long way to
go. Maybe for onstage performing in a rock or jazz band, one of those
88-key weighted action keyboards might be desirable. But for pitch
entry in Finale, things like more than 50 weighted keys or full width
keys -- all that is silly, in my opinion.

My Edirol PC-50 keyboard is fading out - I could deal with the
occasional missing note, but it's gotten to be too much. I only use
this keyboard for MIDI input for Finale, so I don't care about bells
whistles (or helicopters or recorders). I do want a 49-key device.
I also like the compact footprint of the PC-50.

Two I've seen on Amazon are the M-Audio Keystation ($85), M-Audio
Keyrig ($100) and the CME Grey Midi/USB Keyboard Controller (Mkey)
($100). Does anybody have any experience with these or have other
similar keyboards to recommend? I'd like to keep it under $100, if
that's possible for a decent MIDI keyboard these days.

Thanks!

Giz

[Finale] Edit Filter

2010-04-23 Thread Michael Greensill
Is there any reason why, when I set the Edit filter to all, it
doesn't copy double barlines?

I'm not entirely sure, but I think it's because you're only copying one
staff instead of copying the whole system to another whole system.
I've asked the same question myself, and that's the best answer i can come
up with. Same thing happens with copying key signatures, time signatures and
repeats.

Umm, are you copying entire measure stacks or only just a staff?

[Finale] Chord suffix placement

2010-04-23 Thread dershem
in FinWin2010b - I got the font I like for the fonts, but the suffix
(sharps and flats) are WAY above the baseline. Any idea why, and/or how
to fix this? I looked in the manual, and couldn't find anything useful.

TIA,
cd
