Thank you, Don and Jari.  Don's suggestion seems to be the one affecting things
here.

Great help, as usual.

I am working on some linked parts in 2012, using the special tools to move
a single note slightly to the right in order to make space for a smart
shape parentheses that surrounds the notehead.  Then I nudge the smart
shape a pixel or two and leave the part.  When I return to the part, the
spacing is gone.  I'd use one of Bill Duncan's double parentheses
articulations, (they'd space automatically with note spacing) but they are
too close together to accommodate the accidental on the note.  I suppose I
can use separate open and close parentheses articulations, and maybe that's
the best solution, but I'd like to know why the hand spacing disappears.

 Ideas please?

 Thanks,

How many places in the application are there that affect spacing, manual or

I believe it's only AMS actually, and spacing it according to the Music
Spacing options.

But the MM rest auto-update can affect the relative measure lengths of
manually tweaked measures if a MM rest appears on the same line. And AUL
could reflow measures and change their relative measure lengths.

Best regards,

who agrees that for the next upgrade, if we consider that the
programme is (let's say) 80% functional, we should only be required
to pay 80% of the upgrade price?

Re: [Finale] MakeMusic received a buyout offer?

2012-07-18 Thread Apeman
Seeing the Koch name in your list of links brought to mind the Koch brothers
who are multi-billionaires. According to my online search Jeffery is
representing the Koch Family which the Koch brothers own. This could be a very
GOOD thing for Finale. You can find more at this link:

Let's wait and see. No need to get into a fear frenzy of the unknown.

Re: [Finale] F2012 gets sluggish after awhile?

2012-07-12 Thread Apeman
The best way to improve a sluggish computer is to buy a compter with a faster
processor (3.0 Ghz or faster) with 8 Gb of memory or more. I built my own with
a 3.0 Ghz dual core processor (quad is even better) 16 Gb of memory with a dual
boot setup with Windows XP Pro 32 bit on one drive and Win 7 64 bit on another.
With Win 7 64 bit with 16 Gb of ram sluggish pc's are a thing of the past. 32
bit is sluggish and slower because you're limited to a 4 Gb shell. When the
memory is that limited you have to rely on the swap tech aspect of the OS.
Building your own computer is a piece of cake. You can find many videos about
it on YouTube. Hope this helps.

anyone else experiencing this?  finale (mac) gets slow after a couple
hours use.  accessing text expression lists is especially
frustrating.  TGTools align dynamics is also affected -- seemingly
anything done with the selection tool in fact -- but things like
speedy entry, articulations, smart shapes don't seem to be affected.

the sludginess is of course more noticeable in page view, but not
significantly worse than in scroll view (no real difference using
staff sets or showing all staves).

working on a big document, but i don't have a really insane number of
expressions.  file is about 900k right now with 80+ individual
staves, 95 pages presently (will be 160 in end) with no parts
generated yet.  but i'm pretty sure it is not the file, if i quit and
reboot it is faster.

related, what can be done these days to make finale run more
effeciently?  i have already:
- removed plugins i never use
- unchecked auto-update layout
- dropped # of undos listed from 100 to 50 (undo past save is checked)
