How many measures do you want it for?
You must define that in the clef box.

[Finale] Crashing!

2017-04-18 Thread Jón Kristinn Cortez
Hello all.

Crash, all files old and new, when I try to use Articulation and Expression
tools on files back from proof-reading. Can not double-click and input new
Arti/Expr, but can move and work with already input signs. All other tools seem
to work fine. The same on iMac and MacBook.
Have de-authorized and installed a new copy on iMac but nothing changes, all
crash!

Finale 2014d.v5545
iMac macOS Sierra version 10.12.4 - Memory 16GB (4 weeks old)
MacBook Pro OS X El Capitan version 10.11.6 - Memory 8GB

Any ideas?

Re: [Finale] Reliable way to combine multiple files

2016-12-12 Thread Jón Kristinn Cortez
Hello John.

Instead of using Finale to combine the files, with all the troubles that can
cause, how about print the files to PDF, using numbers 011-200 in order you
want the songs to be, and then combine the PDFs into one file.
Is there a reason you want to combine the Finale files?

When I select double-sharp in there, it goes to slot 220 which comes up empty!

I was using (HB) Music Engraver on Mac SE when I saw the ad for Finale 1. The

I had to save up and got Finale 2.0.6 and have had nearly all upgrades since.
Oldest file now on my computer is Finale 3.0.1r11. Opens fine in Finale 2014d.

Thank you, Christopher, done that, no change.

I sent a song that displayed incorrectly on my desktop computer
through Dropbox and opened it in Finale 2012 in my MacBook.
Now everything is correct; lyrics, text-boxes and even the slurs
that are drawn into the noteheads.

In MacBook I moved an expression in the song, saved, closed,
opened, closed, put it into the DropBox, opened in desktop computer,
and everything was wrong again.

Something is wrong with Finale in my desktop computer.
Should I reload Finale 2012 or first find the preferences and thrash them?

[Finale] Problem with fonts

2014-01-13 Thread Jón Kristinn Cortez
Hello all.
I use Times or Times New Roman for lyrics and text-blocks.
They have been acting strangely; disappearing if I use italics or bold,
or squeezing all together into a lump of letters in space of one.
This does not happen with other fonts or in other applications.

Are there font preferences I can thrash (where are they?) or is there
some other solution to this problem?

2012-12-17 Thread Jón Kristinn Cortez
There is no logical reason to have 6/4 doing double duty; being both a duple
and triple meter is confusing. In the example you state I would have written 4
bars 4/4 and one 2/4. By your way I would always have to check where the beat
is in 6/4. What about 3/4 and 6/8?

Re: [Finale] Poor Resolution of Imported Graphics

2012-04-08 Thread Jón Kristinn Cortez
Mac OS X 10.7.3 / Finale 2012a

To a song I am working on I imported a color JPG, then made and imported a PDF
of a few bars of the same song.
Then I made a PDF of the song, with the imported JPG and PDF and it looks good
to me, both on-screen, laser printed on Brother HL-1850 and inkjet colorprinted
on Canon P4500
I made the PDF from the Print to PDF in the print dialog box.

Can't GarageBand import midi files? If it can, save the Finale
file as a midi file (File/Save then click the down-triangle to
select a different format than the default .mus extension,
select .mid) then you should be able to open that in GarageBand.

If GarageBand only imports audio files, you need to have Finale
export as an audio file (select the format that GarageBand will
import).

--
David H. Bailey

I had already saved as .mid but GB would not open that and there is
no Import. Then I tried to save as Audio File but Finale came up
with: "Could not create the audio file (the file may be in use by
another application)" so I restarted, but that did not change
anything, I got the same message again, with Finale the only open
application!

The solution was simple. All I had to do was drag the .mid file into
the open GB track-window and all the instruments were opened into the
right tracks. Easy!

I made this PDF a few minutes ago http://www.isalog.info/notur/sumar.pdf , how does that compare?CortezI know someone who uses Sibelius and they sent me a PDF of a file. Instantly the minute the PDF opened on my screen, the quality was noticeably better than any PDF I have created with Finale.   Are there some settings that I don't know about to make the absolutely sharpest, clearest PDF possible. Or is something that Finale doesn't handle well?  For example online there is this: http://www.utorpheus.com/misc/pagine_musica/tib011.pdf and I've posted a screenshot of my friend's Sibelius PDF at http://www.bytenet.net/kpclow/finale/sample-sib.bmp Here's a sample of my PDF @ http://www.bytenet.net/kpclow/finale/sample.pdf I used the highest setting possible (Printer's quality) and I upped the DPI to 2400. Still not as good as this Molter sample, or the Sibelius. My beams seem very ragged, no matter how much you zoom in. And I noticed that Finale's staff lines seem too thick. And some of the articulations and words have a splotchy look.    This is very frustrating for me. Expression Tool?
Why does every file open as Untitled in a new version?
Why does the Page Setup change from a saved A4 to US Letter unless I
change the order in pagesizes.txt in a new version?

I have a lot more Whys and am sure you all have got some!
Finale is 15 years old, I bought mine at version 2.01. It should be
grown up by now!

Which version? You said in another post that you are still in OS 9, so
I assume you are in a version no later than 2k3? In which case you
version is from "years ago", no?

For what it is worth I have not seen this behaviour in any version up
to the latest 2k5, but then I don't use "Show Multiple Pages" all the
time (only when I do the layout).

This is another one of my pet peeves.
I like 'Show Multiple Pages',
But the pages after the current one disappears after using certain
tools
such as Text Tool, while 'Show Multiple Page' option is still enabled.
I don't remember when this started, but it was not like this years
ago. Anyone know what is this behavior change for?

This sounds to me as though you have some other trouble with your OS X
installation that needs to be solved.
I'm really not sure what those could be. I run Cocktail regularly to
repair permissions, run cron scripts, etc., and none of my disk
maintenance tools detect anything in need of fixing. I recently did a
completely clean reinstall of Panther. I don't use any third-party
hacks -- with the exception of Cocktail, to enable both scroll arrows
at both ends of scrollbars (not really a third-party hack since it's
an undocumented feature of the OS itself) and iKey. I don't run
Classic when I run Finale 2004. I usually don't do heavy lifting in
other apps while Finale is running, although I do need to have Mail
and Safari open the background while I work. It's true that I have an
"unsupported" machine for 10.3, but XPostFacto enables Panther on this
box without a hitch. I don't think it's possible that the Finale app
itself is corrupted, since the two updates released by Coda are in
fact full versions of the application itself.

I suppose it's possible that something has gone wrong with my Finale
preferences and that is causing the app to crash, but that seems
unlikely to me. Nevertheless, I will try resetting my preferences.

But again, Finale is the *only* OS X application that ever crashes on
me.

My FinMac 2004 wouldn't start up after the installation, it always
crashed after the first start-up picture. Then I removed the plug-ins
folder and everything was OK. The same happened in FinMac 2004b and
FinMac 2004c. Never any crashes while working in all of them, in fact,
I can't remember the last time when I had Finale crash. I have 10 apps
open while working in Finale and frequently go from one to another.

I have only one space after a dot. Why do so many have two spaces?
