[Finale] Is it Time for a Class Action Suit against MakeMusic
I was treated very rudely by an employee there today, told that my order was not processed because my wife did not send the tax exempt form by email, but by fax, so it sat four days in a bin, and then was posted to my account and the order never shipped because she had faxed it rather than sent it by email. I mentioned that I was unhappy because I had to buy the upgrade anyhow. "No one has to buy it, it is something you choose to do." I was told. I explained that since I was in the business and I exchange work files I HAVE TO to work with people who have chosen to upgrade. Now they are charging TN state sales tax without an office or facility in the state. "Well, if we do workshop at a music conference we have to pay sales tax to the state." Bizarre! Anyhow, after standing up for them for years, I'm finally disgusted. They shipped 2010 with a lyric feature that they documented and I tried to use. It would not work. I contacted them, they were also unable to get it to work and said that they wouldl deal with this with a later version. They knowingly sell product that is supposed to do what they advertise and routinely we find that there instead things that do not work and they know it. They are selling upgrades to us so that we can get the things we bought the earlier versions to do to finally work. And they do it across state lines. So federal trade regulations apply and there are statutes that deal with products sold like this. What do you know that they have sold and failed to deliver in the product that we have paid forand had to pay for a second time? Is it time for a lawsuit? [Finale] Harpsichord
I forgot to add that during the last two years I have assisted to top name ensembles in securing Roland Harpsichords, both used, during a period when new ones were not available. One we found in Oxford for a London ensemble who appears frequently on CD and DVD who had borrowed one and wanted to get out of paying for tuning and setup for rehearsals but still intended to use a real one for performances. And the other one for the longest running series of cantatas in NYC, the director for all those years just deciding that the expense and hassle were not worth it any more and will only use this. They, and none of the other digital builders, do not do note by note synthesis. Roland and Rodgers are the only digital ones that sample and produce the sound in stereo which ti my ears is an advantage. These instruments will never ever please the purists, but are an alternative for those who have nothing or but a small budget. When real harpsichords are not slavishly maintained they can go way out of whack. If kept in a climate controlled room they are much more reliable, I rehearsed on one in Italy than had not been tuned for 8 months and it was wonderful. Of course the room was never heated nor air conditioned and the walls were 36" stone thick as this was a earthquake area. noel jones, aago ___ Finale mailing list Finale@shsu.edu http://lists.shsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/finale

Bernstein had a fondness for Allen digital computer organs, mainly because many orchestras tend to sharpen as they play while pipe organs go flat from the heat of the orchestra's bodies. Re: [Finale] Lyric hyphens go missing in FinMac2009b?
I have found the same problem, deselecting SMART HYPHENS seems to solve the problem. noel jones On Jan 14, 2009, at 10:38 PM, Christopher Smith wrote: Collective wisdom, Is anyone else experiencing hyphens in lyrics that go missing for no apparent reason? I've been noticing this recently in the last couple of projects where I am using Type Into Score extensively. Usually, I enter the lyrics by cutting and pasting into the Edit Lyrics window, then click assigning, with no problems (other than the usual ones, that is!) but since I started Typing Into Score lately I have been finding hyphens just fail to show up. I hit Redraw, then tried Update Smart Word Extensions and Hyphens (both operations made some, but not all, hyphens come into view.) I checked the Edit Windows box, and sure enough, the hyphen is there, but it just failed to show up in the score. The music is not particularly tight, so there is plenty of room for the hyphen to appear. When I click the syllable and add the hyphen manually, it shows, which made me think the first ten times or so it happened that I had just missed typing it in. But there are several places where I KNOW I typed it, and a few places where I had copied the lyrics from another voice that HAD the hyphen, and it is there in the Edit Lyrics window, so what gives? Any insights would be appreciated. FinMac 2009b. Re: [Finale] Hymn Lyrics
Very good advice. Many thanks, Christopher. noel jones There are several ways to deal with this. Dragging the systems in Page Layout is easy, but inaccurate. ___ Finale mailing list Finale@shsu.edu http://lists.shsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/finale
[Finale] Hymn Lyrics
I think I have layout and everything under control when doing hymns except lyrics. Multiple verses end up making me manually drag staves around, and I end up with a sloppy looking book of hymns. I know there must be an automatic command that will move things to adjust to multiple lines of lyrics.
