Re: [Finale] DS al Coda question

2005-12-21 Thread NRaspa
Hello Holiday greetings,

I am working on some jazz piano charts and I have one which has a two measure
coda at the bottom of the page. Currently I have the measures just before
the coda separated from the coda with a double bar line.

My question: Since many practices which were once common go away with time,
is it still common practice to separate the coda section from the rest of the
music with blank space? If so, can someone suggest a method of creating the
blank space. I have enough room on the page to create a sliver of space and
still not crowd the music, however, I really don't want to add another page for
two measures.

Thanks,

If you want brackets, clefs, etc. make a separate system for the Coda. Make
the last system shorter, and start the Coda system over on the right past
the end of the previous system. Make sure Avoid Margin Collisions isn't
checked in the Page Layout menu, and drag or set margins numerically to
bring the Coda System up level with the one before.

If you don't want clefs and so forth simply insert a short blank measure
before the Coda, and hide it with a Staff Style.

If you mean that you want the Coda on the same line as some other music
and it is separated by a shim of blank space, insert an extra bar, and
apply a staff style to it that has the staff setting set to 0 with full
barline. That effectively makes a bar with no lines - which is blank
space if you put nothing in it or hide things in it.

That is exactly what I meant. I just tried it and it worked perfectly.
Thank you very much!

You're very welcome. I use them all the time if the coda is just a
couple of bars, to me they're still very much in fashion :)
