I know my frustration and I suspect Thomas's frustration stems from the systematic failure of MM over many years to implement any of these officially lodged requests at the expense of dolling up the playback and the UI. Not that dolling up the UI and the playback is completely useless, mind you. ___ Finale mailing list Finale@shsu.edu http://lists.shsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/finale

Or how about taking a leadership role for a change? Simple features that NO notation program has (to my knowledge), like swell hairpins and long slur marks, two of my pet peeves. And unlinkable special tool edits: the primary remaining barrier to a fully functional linked parts feature. Re: [Finale] Finale 32-bit vs. Sibelius 64-bit
Jim, with all due respect - it would be nice if MakeMusic showed that much interest when it comes to fixing publishing shortcomings within Finale, not just playback related issues. There are still major errors within the program that have not been dealt with over many, many years and many, many versions of Finale. I'm sure others can provide long lists, but just a quick for instance: what about the fact that it still needs a major work-around to be able to show key cancellations in only a few staves - to clarify: key cancellations are shown when going from more sharps/flats to less going from sharps to flats (or vice versa) does NOT get any cancellations in an orchestra score with lots of transposing instruments one is often confronted with both scenarios after years of staff styles, to my knowledge there still isn't a solution available to help with the above situation. One has to hide key signatures in certain staves and place sharps/flats as expressions into the score and then be super careful in the part stage to deal with that work-around, especially at line breaks. Re: [Finale] Finale 32-bit vs. Sibelius 64-bit
It is possible that 64-bitness has something to do with it, but I would have to be convinced by controlled double-blind tests. There are so many other factors that affect hardware performance besides 32 vs. 64 bitness, to the point that it is mostly a marketing gimmick. Still, playback involves shuffling large amounts of data through memory and lots of math, so the 64-bitness is conceivably a factor. A more likely reason for the difference, though, is a difference in how the two playback engines manage accessing the hard drive. [Finale] Finale 32-bit vs. Sibelius 64-bit
A small note: The playback of my very complicated scores in FINALE is really terrible in comparison with the playback I have with Sibelius. Also, has anyone noted that the ARIA manual is about three versions? The FINALE score still looks better.
