While you were gone everyone switched to Sibelius, but a few people have since regretted that and have returned to Finale. We had a few other discussions that went on forever because no one had the definitive answer, but now that you are back I don't anticipate that problem again. I don't remember what version of Finale you are using, but the general consensus here (with a few exceptions) is that Finale 2008b is the best, least buggy version since 2006. In other words, if you are using Finale 2007, you are better off moving up to 2008b. I admit I'm one who converted to Sibelius, but I haven't switched back. I'm using both programs about equally, but favoring Sibelius. However, and more important to Andrew, the Handbook of Instrumentation has been the subject of discussions on several other lists and I have been able to send several people buying a copy of it. It's notation-software-independent and still the best thing around for information on such a wide variety of instruments. -- David H. Welcome back, Hal! I'm still enjoying your Handbook and have been getting a lot of use out of it. I skipped 2007, but it may not be too late if you really want it. I missed the opportunity to get 2007 with the discount, and I'm wondering if I should skip it altogether. If enough people are using it, though, I'd like to upgrade my tutorials for it. I'm not involved in film or video, so SMPTE would be wasted on me. I like the linked score and parts feature if it really works. Will the new version allow you to make MP3 files on a Mac using GPO sounds? BTW, I'm enjoying the intonation and early tuning thread. Re: [Finale] I'm back
Welcome back, Harold. I like urban life too, even in small towns like Eugene (and here in Bellingham), and I miss walking to things. 2007 is good, if you need the linked parts feature - and that depends on the kind of work you're doing. If there will be many revisions after the score is done, and you want to avoid having to make them in multiple places, linked parts can be helpful, but there are things about the way it works that require a few more steps than you'd think in order to accomplish this. I am using the new system now, with some success but still not total comfort. YMMV. Chuck On Jan 20, 2007, at 10:39 AM, Harold Owen wrote: Hi everyone.
