Glad to see you getting better and online again!

While you were gone everyone switched to Sibelius, but a few people have
since regretted that and have returned to Finale. We had a few other
discussions that went on forever because no one had the definitive
answer, but now that you are back I don't anticipate that problem again.

I don't remember what version of Finale you are using, but the general
consensus here (with a few exceptions) is that Finale 2008b is the best,
least buggy version since 2006. In other words, if you are using Finale
2007, you are better off moving up to 2008b.

I admit I'm one who converted to Sibelius, but I haven't switched back.
I'm using both programs about equally, but favoring Sibelius.

However, and more important to Andrew, the Handbook of Instrumentation
has been the subject of discussions on several other lists and I have
been able to send several people buying a copy of it.

It's notation-software-independent and still the best thing around for
information on such a wide variety of instruments.

Hi everyone.
Afer 36 years in our big house near the university, we've moved down
town into a beautiful new condo building that's walking distance to
the symphony concerts, the new library, great restaurants, and my
church. The move was a major effort, and I dropped out of just about
everything for the time being. We're settled and happy now in our new
digs.
I see that many of the posts are by familiar folks, that EPS and
hyphens are still a problem, and the 2007a upgrade may not be the one
to have. I missed the opportunity to get 2007 with the discount, and
I'm wondering if I should skip it altogether. If enough people are
using it, though, I'd like to upgrade my tutorials for it. I'm not
involved in film or video, so SMPTE would be wasted on me. I like the
linked score and parts feature if it really works. Will the new
version allow you to make MP3 files on a Mac using GPO sounds? BTW,
I'm enjoying the intonation and early tuning thread. I have no idea
how it got from Mozart to 17th and 18th c. continuo and ripieno.
It's good to be back.

Welcome back, Harold.

I like urban life too, even in small towns like Eugene (and here in
Bellingham), and I miss walking to things.

2007 is good, if you need the linked parts feature - and that depends
on the kind of work you're doing. If there will be many revisions
after the score is done, and you want to avoid having to make them in
multiple places, linked parts can be helpful, but there are things
about the way it works that require a few more steps than you'd think
in order to accomplish this. I am using the new system now, with
some success but still not total comfort.

YMMV.
