I wonder why that is -- the same is true of files produced by
WordPerfect. If I use the publish to PDF function within WordPerfect
the file is much larger than if I simply print to an external PDF
printer driver.

PDF contents can be compressed. That can cause variations. Also there
are many options for how to handle graphics. There have always been
major variations in PDF size for what seem to be equivalent renderings.

[Finale] emailing pdf

2015-05-08 Thread Lawrence Yates
Hi folks,

I'm using WinFin2012c

I have created a file and exported the parts to pdf. All of these have
emailed to my client except the Violin 1 part which has failed four times
now. I have tried renaming it, re-exporting it from Finale, re-saving the
original file under a different name and re-exporting. It isn't the
biggest file.

So far nothing is working.

Any ideas please?

Cheers

Re: [Finale] emailing pdf

2015-05-08 Thread Lee Actor
The pdf export feature in WinFin2012c (the version I'm currently using) has
a bug that generates extraneous characters, usually at the bottom of pages
containing triplets. I reported this bug to Makemusic in Nov. 2013; it's a
known bug in the 3rd party pdf export engine they use, and to the best of my
knowledge it has not been fixed in Fin2014 to date. You might consider
using one of the many available pdf printer products, which install as a
printer driver and enable pdfs to be produced from any application which can
print. I've tried many of them, and my current favorite is Bullzip
(http://bullzip.com/products/pdf/info.php). It's fast, full-featured,
produces very small file sizes, and is solid as a rock. Even better, it's
free for individual use.

One other thing: the Finale pdf export, in addition to being buggy, produces
files 5-6x bigger than any other pdf tool I've used.
