Re: [Finale] Another hyphen bug in 2007c

I couldn't reproduce this one. Could you give exact details of the
hyphen settings in document options, or anything else you can think
of that might be affecting the hyphens? I'm very interested in
keeping track of all the hyphen bugs.

Just noticed yet another bug with hyphens in 2007c: if you add
extra space at the beginning of a measure (to allow for an
expression used as a time signature, for instance), the last hyphen
of the measure gets shifted to the right by the same amount, to the
point of colliding with the next syllable in certain cases.

This seems to happen in all flavours of Finale 2005, 2006 and 2007
(in previous version the extra space at beginning of measure option
did not exist). And the only cure I can find is to turn on smart
hyphens.

Thanks for your interest, Michael.

I posted a sample here (see the red boxes):

The hyphen settings are here:

The problem arises each time I add space at the beginning of a
measure to allow for the expression replacing the time signature. I
checked at least a half a dozen files, and they all confirm this
bug...

Good question. I really don't know. I'd just try it and see if it
causes any other problems.

What to you think of the placement of the first hyphen after the
system break?

A quick check on some scores reveals that there doesn't seem to be a
rule: I found a few that do it your way and a few that put the hyphen
further left, like Finale. I do think your way looks better, but the
other placement doesn't bother me unduly.

With those settings, you will not see any hyphens unless you manually
update then.
