Re: [Finale] Cheap, easy notation apps?
Harmony Assistant, $85. http://www.myriad-online.com/en/products/harmony.htm I don't use this product, though I have used it's little sibling Melody Assistant. One cool thing about both of these programs is that you can buy an add-on called Virtual Singer that will do a fairly good job of singing the text for you. And there's lots of customization, too (intonation, languages, etc). It's not production quality, but it might be useful for singers. (Unless it's changed greatly in recent years, the GUI for Melody Assistant is very awkward, but it does do the job. And compare it to Harmony Assistant for features, since Melody Assistant might be a better -- and cheaper -- option). And another plug: Myriad also makes a FABULOUS web picture gallery program called Galerie. It's for Mac only and it's free! I've used it for a few years now and I'm quite pleased with it. (And no, I don't have any connection to this company). Andrew Levin ___ Finale mailing list Finale@shsu.edu http://lists.shsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/finale

Re: [Finale] Cheap, easy notation apps?
i'm also not up on them, but i'd make sure you choose something that exports musicXML well, so the scores can be migrated later. 2008/7/6 Paul Hayden [EMAIL PROTECTED]: I have a friend who sings in a non-professional choir and he would like to buy a Windows platform notation program that is inexpensive (say, less than $100US) and easy to use. He would be using it mostly for 4-part choral music (including lyrics) with keyboard accompaniment. He does not have a MIDI keyboard, so he'd like to use the computer keyboard for note input, if possible. I'm not up on the various incarnations of Finale (Allegro, PrintMusic, Songwriter) and Sibelius (Student), so I'm not sure what to recommend. Any suggestions -- not just Finale and Sibelius products -- would be much appreciated. I know someone who has used it in exactly the situation you've described and was quite happy with it. It's never been any good for me, since it is (or at least was) windows only, but there is (or was) a free downloadable player for other choir members. John -- John R. Howell, Assoc. As others have suggested, Noteworthy Composer seems to be a favorite among vocal people and elementary music teachers. Many of the vocal sites have music for download in the NWC format. There's a free NWC reader that's somewhat like Scorch for Sibelius.
