PDF contents can be compressed. That can cause variations. Also there are many options for how to handle graphics. There have always been major variations in PDF size for what seem to be equivalent renderings. On 5/10/2015 5:49 AM, David H. Hi Lee, thanks for the tip on Bullzip - it certainly does produce much smaller files than the Finale option. Re: [Finale] emailing pdf
The pdf export feature in WinFin2012c (the version I'm currently using) has a bug that generates extraneous characters, usually at the bottom of pages containing triplets. I reported this bug to Makemusic in Nov. 2013; it's a known bug in the 3rd party pdf export engine they use, and to the best of my knowledge it has not been fixed in Fin2014 to date. You might consider using one of the many available "pdf printer" products, which install as a printer driver and enable pdfs to be produced from any application which can print. I've tried many of them, and my current favorite is Bullzip (http://bullzip.com/products/pdf/info.php). It's fast, full-featured, produces very small file sizes, and is solid as a rock. Even better, it's free for individual use. One other thing: the Finale pdf export, in addition to being buggy, produces files 5-6x bigger than any other pdf tool I've used. -Lee ___ Lee Actor Composer-in-Residence and Assistant Conductor, Palo Alto Philharmonic http://www.leeactor.com -Original Message- From: finale-boun...@shsu.edu [mailto:finale-boun...@shsu.edu] On Behalf Of Lawrence Yates Sent: Friday, May 08, 2015 2:53 PM To: Subject: Re: [Finale] emailing pdf Thanks - no, there are no illegal characters but amazingly, since I sent my email to the forum, the file has been sent successfully. Thanks David, I hadn't thought of that. (It's actually gone since I wrote - on about the seventh attempt - no idea what the problem was). On 8 May 2015 at 23:04, David H. Thanks - no, there are no illegal characters but amazingly, since I sent my email to the forum, the file has been sent successfully. I've no idea what the problem was. Are there any "illegal" characters in the filename? I know MacFin has problems with the slash / character when generating parts. Perhaps a similar issue exists for Windows?
