[Fink-devel] help testing new Installers
I hope a few people will be willing to help test some new binary Installers for fink (under 10.2 and 10.3) before they are released to the user community. The files are at: http://www.cgtp.duke.edu/~drm/Fink-0.6.4-Installer.dmg (for 10.2) http://www.cgtp.duke.edu/~drm/Fink-0.7.2-Installer.dmg (for 10.3) In order to install fink with these, you cannot have a /sw directory. If you move it to /sw.tmp, you can then test the installer, delete the copy of /sw made by the installer, and move your /sw tree back into place. I'll be happy to hear reports both positive and negative. There will be a similar testing period for a 10.4 installer, probably in about one week's time. I've long though about the possibility of using aquafied GUI from Fink's Python, but I've not been so smart as you. I think that a Python package that builds against the Aqua Tcl/Tk would be great, and Fink's users would appreciate it a lot. I hope the developers take it into account. Just my 2 cents, Andrea. Dan, What else do I need to do to get the new variant version of the pymol package (now pymol-py) into fink unstable? Jack ps The pymol-py.info and pymol-py.patch files are both uploaded into the fink package tracker. Note that these would both replace the current pymol.info and pymol.patch. Dear Murali: Python2.3 distributed by apple in 10.4 does not appear to make use of their aqua tcltk framework. I don't understand why they didn't do this, but that was my motivation to compile Python2.4 using Apple's tcltk framework. In order to get the "hybrid" program that Warren distributes to use this, you would have to either recompile Python2.3 in the same way we did for 2.4, or wait for Warren to distribute the hybrid program using Python2.4. He could probably be persuaded to have it use Apple's TclTk as long as we all continue to faithfully support his efforts with MacPymol. I just renewed my maintenance agreement for MacPyMol; it is definitely very much worth it. What I wrote about apple's python 2.3 is false. I had forgot to make the symbolic link in the 2.3 frameworks to site-packages in fink. Or put a copy of Pmw module in the site-packages folder in the / System/Library/Frameworks/Python.frameowrk/Versions/2.3/Python2.3/ lib/ folder. Jack, Thanks for making the variants version of pymol. It builds fine here too (OS X 10.3.9). Not sure if you can remove the old pymol if you add a new package with a different name. - Koen. Jack ps The pymol-py.info and pymol-py.patch files are both uploaded into the fink package tracker. Note that these would both replace the current pymol.info and pymol.patch.
