considering coreutils' track record of buggyness on non-linux systems,
especially darwin, it would definitely be better to use /bin/ for
anything important. If end-users want to mess up their systems with
coreutils, that's their perogative, but best to go with the devil you
know for packaging...

But then, considering coreutils' track record of buggyness, we should
probably update it as well. :)

Unfortunately, the "positive" and "negative" buttons for Fink
Commander give the same report (shown above). Is there a problem, or
is the package OK?

There is a bug in the way that the latest tar interacts with dpkg;
this is harmless, but I believe that a fix (for dpkg) is on the way.

If the shell is invoked as /bin/sh, it will be in "standards-
compliant sh mode", and echo won't interpret -n. If the shell is
invoked as /bin/bash, echo -n will be interpreted.

This behavior can be toggled without invoking a new shell via set -o
posix / set +o posix (which doesn't appear to change how echo -n is
interpreted in Tiger.)

[Fink-devel] install svn oddity

2006-12-17 Thread Jack Howarth
Has anyone else run into this when trying to install
the svn fink package under a clean install of fink 10.4

I can work around this by forcing the installation of libapr0-shlibs at this
point with...

fink install libapr0-shlibs

...which then allows me to repeat the 'fink install svn' without any additional
failures.
Any idea why this is failing the first time? Also, what is up with all the
instances of...

tar: -: file name read contains nul character

Thanks in advance for any clarifications.
   Jack

If you read you will see:
"Leopard certainly won’t be UNIX in name only. Apple will submit
Leopard and Leopard Server to The Open Group for certification
against the UNIX ‘03 product standard."

So you can probably assume that if there are differences between the
UNIX03 spec and bsd, then Apple will probably go with UNIX03.

Just to understand this completely:

In the future, will /bin/echo also drop support for the -n flag?
Is Apple moving away from BSD?
Or does this concern only the shell builtins?
