[Fink-devel] fink and CVS?

Has CVS been scrapped? I can't do fink selfupdate-cvs anymore, and I get
messages like:

cvs [update aborted]: end of file from server (consult above messages if
any)

Looks to me like the CVS server isn't happy with me anymore. Any advice?

Thanks,
Greg

Or switch to the rsync update method. Download and unpack
http://fink.opendarwin.org/fink/fink-0.14.0.tar.gz,
then "cd fink-0.14.0; sudo ./inject.pl /sw",
then "fink selfupdate-rsync".

Just a note on this.

Please be advised that this method is still EXPERIMENTAL.
I am currently in the process of gathering more information how to
ensure that this rsync mirror is always up to date and stays as close as
possible to the development CVS on sourceforge. While we appreciate
testing, I would liek to warn you, that this is still a method that is
being tested so to speak. As soon as everything has been ironed out, I
am sure a formal announcement will be made with proper instructions.

Thank you

[Fink-devel] reports on 0.14.0 ?

Does anybody have any feedback on fink 0.14.0? I'd like to move it to stable
soon, so that we can announce the rsync update method as the preferred method
for all users. (Anonymous CVS at sourceforge has become unresponsive AGAIN...)

Re: [Fink-devel] reports on 0.14.0 ?

2003-10-09 Thread Alexander K. Hansen
I tried out selfupdate-rsync and it worked fine. However, I switched
back to authenticated CVS because I wanted a package that wasn't yet
available on the opendarwin mirror--anonymous CVS users probably
wouldn't see a major change.

I guess modifying the documentation would be in order, once the
announcement is made.

[Fink-devel] Are you running panther, and do you have no regard for your current Fink installation?

Then I need you! =)

I just posted instructions to my blog on how to do some panther testing
with Fink. If you're interested in helping out, please follow the
instructions here:

  http://ranger.befunk.com/blog/archives/000246.html

Like it says there, please don't post about problems with this fink or
building on panther to the fink list, this is mostly a beginner's smoke
test (call it a pre-alpha) to see if there are major problems. Just try
to build things available in the 10.2-gcc3.3 and 10.3 trees and let me
know if you run into any problems.

Thanks!

Are you on 10.2? Or 10.2-gcc3.3? If the former, then something's
wrong, you shouldn't get prebinding stuff unless you're on the gcc3.3
branch (which is the 0.14.1 beta).

[Fink-devel] Are you on 10.2, and want to help us get panther-ready?

2003-10-09 Thread Benjamin Reed
The 10.2-gcc3.3 tree is the testing ground for what will become the
Panther tree; while we plan on continuing to support Jaguar even after
Panther is released, the eventual goal is to only support gcc3.3 on
either platform.

You can help us get gcc3.3 and Panther ready if you're running 10.2 by
following David R. Morrison's directions here:

  http://article.gmane.org/gmane.os.apple.fink.general/9849

We've only got a couple more weeks until Panther's out, the more we can
get things ready the easier things will be long-term.

Any help and feedback is greatly appreciated, especially relating to
upgrading (going from 10.2 to 10.2-gcc3.3, going from 10.2 to panther,
going from 10.2-gcc3.3 to panther). These are they types of upgrade
paths that are difficult to test more than once, so if you have issues,
please let us know.

Well, I copied over /sw from a 10.2.6 installation, and it seems to
work (at least snmpwalk, keychain, & nmap).

I tried to install gnomemeeting (94 dependencies, wow!), but it
chokes on glib2; an updated fink does the same when I just try "fink

Do you have unstable enabled? glib2 should be at 2.2.1-4 in
10.2-gcc3.3/unstable, which is the version I made to build on panther.
