[Fink-users] Install error for system-xfree86

2003-01-29 Thread Don Thompson
Folks,

I recently tried to install system-xfree86 with Apple' X11 app and got
the error message below. This is a clean install of the Mac OS X,
X11.app, and Fink no other packages were installed. Any thoughts are
greatly appreciated.

Did you install SDK package? You need it as well as Users package. See
Q5.5 of Fink FAQ.

Cheers,

It turned out immediately that other KDE packages like kdebase3 have

update KDE stuff without installing tetex. This wasn't the case
before this release.

So, is this a new feature or just a temporary mishap in the current
release of KDE?

Some bits of KDE want doxygen to generate docs, so it's been added as
a build dependency.

If you were to wait until the latest packages made it into stable and
binaries were created, it wouldn't be a runtime dependency, it's only
needed at build time.

which means that I can remove tetex later if I want to without breaking
dependencies? If it is the case, there's no problem.

Re: [Fink-users] fix-fink

2003-01-29 Thread David R. Morrison
Fix-fink was released about a year ago to deal with some leftover problems
with the upgrade from 10.0 to 10.1. It has not been changed since then.

However, due to some not-very-robust code (that was written by me :-)
these days it reports a potential problem even when there is no problem.
It was nothing to do with any X11.app issues.

Some day, after the final release of Apple's X11.app, we'll probably have a
version of fix-fink which is designed to fix up the problems caused by the
incorrect library versioning in the beta release of X11.app. But fix-fink
doesn't do that yet.

[Fink-users] Apple's X11 symbols

2003-01-29 Thread Hans Fuchs
Hi

I read the x11 library warning on the fink homepage, therefore I
immediately run that script after I installed Apple's X11. Then I then
installed a library (not fink libs) and tried to run a test programm. The
result was:

bash-2.05a$ g++3 $CPPFLAGS $LDFLAGS
-L/System/Library/Frameworks/OpenGL.framework/Versions/A/Libraries/ -o
glcube -lclanGL -lclanApp -lclanDisplay -lclanCore -lX11 glcube.cpp
ld: /var/tmp//cc2EpG7D.o illegal reference to symbol: _glBegin defined in
indirectly referenced dynamic library
/System/Library/Frameworks/OpenGL.framework/Versions/A/Libraries/libGL.dylib
ld: /var/tmp//cc2EpG7D.o illegal reference to symbol: _gluPerspective
defined in indirectly referenced dynamic library
/System/Library/Frameworks/OpenGL.framework/Versions/A/Libraries/libGLU.dylib

LDFLAGS=-L/sw/lib -L/usr/X11R6/lib/
CPPFLAGS=-I/sw/include -I/usr/X11R6/include/

Has this to do with that warning? I appreciate any hint!

Best,
Hans

Re: [Fink-users] X11 anti-aliasing + true type

2003-01-29 Thread Enrico Franconi
 If using apple's X11.app, there is a hook from /etc/X11/XftConfig:

 #
 # add OS X system-wide font directories
 #

 dir /Library/Fonts
 dir /System/Library/Fonts

great! It actually works for xterm. It does not work with the fink
installed mozilla, though. I tried to modify the /sw/etc/mozilla/prefs.js
but to no avail. I added:

pref(font.directory.truetype.3, /Library/Fonts);
pref(font.directory.truetype.4, /System/Library/Fonts);

Any hint?

By the way, I have the hinted freetype stuff installed:

 freetype 1.3.1-6 TrueType font rendering library, version 1
 freetype-bin 1.3.1-6 TrueType font rendering library, version 1
 i   freetype-hintin  1.3.1-6  TrueType font rendering library, version ...

 i   freetype2-hinti  2.0.9-1  TrueType font rendering library, version ...
 freetype2-shlib 2.0.9-1 TrueType font rendering library, version ...

I assume that it is off topic for this list discussing how to do it
for OpenOffice as well... :-)

[Fink-users] Where is gnuplot?

I've installed fink 0.5.1 and tried installing gnuplot - it appears in the

downloading.

On a related note, the homepage listed for gnuplot in the package list

My /sw/etc/apt/sources.list file is the default:

Did you get this during an update-all? It's possible that something
ended up installing libpng and it didn't undo it when it was time to
build kdelibs3.

Likely starting again will fix it (this is part of the pains of the
libpng - libpng3 change, I guess)

Yes, it is a result of update-all session, though I updatated qt3
beforehand.

Alright. I'll give it another shot.

Thanks,
