Re: [Fink-users] Gimp-Print/Ghostscript

2003-07-31 Thread Adrian Simmons

system-ghostscript would do the trick.
A return of the gimp-print plugin for Gimp would also be nice. It was
working nicely with the gimp-print/ghostript packages for osx until it
disappeared.

[Fink-users] gtk+ xfree86 = no go

2003-07-31 Thread Josh Forman
I saw on the devel list that someone had the same issue as I have now,
when trying to install some packages (xchat, gaim, gtk, etc.). I was
wondering if there was any workaround to this. The original email was
at
http://www.mail-archive.com/[EMAIL PROTECTED]/
msg05379.html

Here's the end of the messages I got when trying to install:

configure: error: pangoxft Pango backend found, but Xft not found
make: *** No targets specified and no makefile found. Stop.
### execution of ./configure failed, exit code 2
Failed: compiling gtk+2-2.2.1-6 failed
When I list my installed fink pkgs here are the related ones (but the
versions don't seem to jive):
(i) gtk+ 1.2.10-15 The Gimp Toolkit
(i) gtk+-data 1.2.10-15 The Gimp Toolkit
(i) gtk+-shlibs1.2.10-15 The Gimp Toolkit
(i) xfree86-base-shli 4.2.1.1-4 XFree86 libraries, utilities,
clients and data

(I guess that means they're really set to be removed)

In other news, I also get this error now when trying to remove gtk+:

(Reading database ... dpkg: error processing gtk+ (--remove):
files list file for package `imlib' is missing final newline
Errors were encountered while processing:
 gtk+
Processing was halted because there were too many errors.
dpkg --remove returned error exit status 1.

I also got it when installing some other packages. I read the FAQ, but
the suggestion for this error didn't help. I noticed that it's talking
about imlib, but i dont seem to have a deb file for that. I had tried
toying with the .deb for the package i was installing (i had also got
it with xchat and python apparently).

I hope this is clear to somebody. :) Let me know if you need
clarification.

TIA

Re: [Fink-users] gtk+ xfree86 = no go

2003-07-31 Thread Alexander K. Hansen
Which pango1 package did you try to install: pango1-xft1 or
pango1-xft2? You should have picked -xft1.

The package versions shown are the latest versions, not what you have
currently.

You will also need to fix the imlib problem, because it causes dpkg to
get confused. The fix is in the FAQ:

http://fink.sourceforge.net/faq/usage-fink.php#bad-list-file

You say that this entry didn't help because you don't have a .deb: did
you read the part where it said:

if you don't have the deb file, you can still proceed because the
error doesn't interfere with builds. Just use fink rebuild packagename
, to build the .deb--it won't install yet, though. Are you sure you
don't have the .deb anywhere (like /sw/var/cache/apt/archives)

i.e. use fink rebuild imlib, then do all of the grubby dpkg/awk stuff.

Re: [Fink-users] gtk+ xfree86 = no go

2003-07-31 Thread Josh Forman
Thanks for the help. I appreciate the pointers. Unfortunately, they
didn't succeed. See below for details.

You will also need to fix the imlib problem, because it causes dpkg to

Oops, I guess I glazed over that. I tried rebuilding and installing
imlib and giflib (which is a prereq of imlib). This wasn't successful.
See below.

Are you sure you don't have the .deb anywhere (like
/sw/var/cache/apt/archives)
I don't have an imlib deb anywhere. In fact at this point, I don't have
an imlib package installed. I'd like to just clean out all these
packages piece by piece and start over but it seems that I get this for
everything (even for something simple like wtf):
[12:38:01 | ~| 2065] snofo % fink remove pango1
sudo /sw/bin/fink remove pango1
Information about 2850 packages read in 3 seconds.

dpkg --remove pango1
(Reading database ... dpkg: error processing pango1 (--remove):
files list file for package `imlib' is missing final newline
Errors were encountered while processing:
 pango1
Processing was halted because there were too many errors.
### execution of dpkg failed, exit code 1
Failed: can't remove package pango1

i.e. use fink rebuild imlib, then do all of the grubby dpkg/awk
stuff.
OK, so I tried that, and I end up with :
[..stuff...]
files list file for package `imlib' is missing final newline
Errors were encountered while processing:

/sw/fink/dists/stable/main/binary-darwin-powerpc/graphics/giflib_4.1.0-
7_darwin-powerpc.deb
[...stufff...]

So i try rebuilding giflib (because the deb is there and gives me a
list of files). Rebuilding gets the junk that I've posted here:

http://www.joshforman.com/finkstuff/rebuildgiflib.txt

The first line that looks like an error is
/sw/include/X11/Xlib.h:9: header file 'decw$include:Xlib.h' not found
This is the same type of error I got when I tried installing the newest
gaim last week, which require me to 'fink selfupdate' if i wanted to
get the latest one. So I seem to be back where I started. I hope I
didn't screw something up...

Hope you can help, thanks again.
Josh

The problem is that the package manager requires that every package
list file be correct. Here's an alternative for you: imlib is
available in the binary distro, so you can download a fully built .deb
file. Try

sudo apt-get install --download-only imlib

The .deb file should be placed /sw/var/apt/cache/archives (but not
installed), and you should be able to follow the instructions in the
FAQ from there, and get yourself a clean list file!

That should have been will be placed, i.e. by apt-get itself. You
won't have to move it.

[Fink-users] removing XDarwin in favour of X11

2003-07-31 Thread Gary Elshaw
Someone recently told the list how to remove XDarwin from fink to
enable them to install Apple's X11 and i can't find the message
anywhere. Would anyone know what this command was?

Cheers,
Gary

This is when you have fink's 'sed' package installed.
Else you can only do the following, which basically covers you as well:
---
fink list -i -t | cut -f2 | grep 560 | sed 's,560,580,g' | xargs fink
list -n -t
| cut -f2 | grep 580 | grep -v 'system-perl580' | xargs fink install
