I've tried installing both the binary and from source. From

Don't know, otherwise I would have included it. And, now that I've
tried loading the binary using apt-get, I can't seem to get it to
recompile for me (removing and installing just reinstalls the binary).

No binary was created (that I could find).

Try dpkg -L gnushogi to see what was installed.

The binary version also seems to lack an executable binary file--
at least no *shogi files have been added to /sw/bin.

Worked for me (on 10.3):

$ dpkg -L gnushogi
/.
/sw
/sw/bin
/sw/bin/gnushogi
...

Definitely does not work for me.

dpkg -L gnushogi
/.
/sw
/sw/bin
/sw/share
/sw/share/doc
/sw/share/doc/gnushogi

When I launch xshogi, I get the following error...

xshogi: failed to start shogi program gnushogi on localhost:

Any suggestions?

[Fink-users] Problems installing Fink

2004-07-05 Thread Rich Warren
Hi,
I've just repartitioned my hard drive (trying to move my /Users to a
separate partition), and reloaded OS X 10.3. I'm now trying to
reinstall Fink to the main partition (the root drive). I've enabled the
root user, and would like to run fink after su-ing to root (I've used
this method quite successfully before).

I downloaded the install package from the web page, and the install
went smoothly enough (I had to modify my .bash_profile by hand, but
that is to be expected).

When I run echo $PATH I get:
root# echo $PATH
/sw/bin:/sw/sbin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:/Volumes/Data/Users/
riki:/usr/X11R6/bin

Which looks OK, as far as I can remember.
When I run fink selfupdate, after some propmts, I get:
Now downloading package descriptions...
cvs -q -z3 -d:pserver:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/cvsroot/fink
checkout -d fink dists
can't create temporary directory /tmp/cvs-serv31747
Permission denied
### execution of cvs failed, exit code 1
Failed: Downloading package descriptions from CVS failed.

ls -l tmp gives me the following:
root# ls -l /tmp
lrwxr-xr-x 1 root admin 13 5 Jul 14:08 /tmp - /private/tmp/
and ls -l /private/ is:
ls -l /private/
total 0
drwxr-xr-x 95 root wheel 3230 5 Jul 13:56 etc
drwxrwxrwt 8 root wheel 272 5 Jul 14:22 tmp
drwxr-xr-x 19 root admin 646 5 Jul 11:29 var
I'm not sure what is wrong, or how I should fix it. The file
permissions seem OK (though I'm not really sure what the sticky-bit on
/private/tmp will do). I'm a little nervous about changing them.

Did I just forget something simple? Any suggestions?

google for crosstools, there's a nicely done script to do exactly

Can you give me the URL you're referring to? I've googled and googled

headers), plus it's for the wrong CPU. I've tried to use it as a
framework, but so far I haven't been successful.

Hence the desire to find general instructions on compiling GCC 2.95. I
know it can be done, I just don't know how to do it.

Doing a cross compiler for GCC 3+ has been no problem.

[Fink-users] Fink and QT-mac questions

[Fink-users] Problem with chown

2003-11-17 Thread Rich Warren
I tried to run the command listed on the web page:

sudo find /sw/ -user 2011 -exec chown root:admin {} \;

And I got a lot of errors similar to these:

chown: changing ownership of `/sw/etc/gtk/gtkrc.sk': Function not
implemented
chown: changing ownership of `/sw/etc/gtk/gtkrc.sl': Function not
implemented
chown: changing ownership of `/sw/etc/gtk/gtkrc.sp': Function not
implemented
chown: changing ownership of `/sw/etc/gtk/gtkrc.sq': Function not
implemented
chown: changing ownership of `/sw/etc/gtk/gtkrc.sr': Function not
implemented

On a quick examination, I noticed two things. First, these seem to all
be symlinks. Second, I am using fink's chown, not apples. I tried it
again, specifying /usr/sbin/chown, and it didn't give me errors--but it
didn't change these permissions either.

Is this OK? If not, what can I do about it?

Re: [Fink-users] X11 1.0 - KDE

2003-11-09 Thread Rich Warren
This also worked for me...except...

It only allows me to run X11 using KDE. I'd like the option of
sometimes running KDE, while other times just opening a quick
application from my normal Mac desktop. (ideally also allowing me to
use the fullscreen X11 with KDE and the rootless with single apps).

I tried a wide variety of ways around this, but nothing else seemed to
work.

Other random KDE questions:
Has anyone found a set of fonts that looks good? Similarly are the mac
fonts already installed. If not, how can I go about that.

KOffice and KDevelop both seem missing (I've checked both stable and
unstable feeds). I'm assuming they'll reappear eventually. Any
information about them? Dia is another application that I once had
installed, but cannot find in the 10.3 feeds.

[Fink-users] USB Networking

2003-02-23 Thread Rich Warren
Anyone know anything about setting up USB networking on an iBook? Or using
pppd to setup serial networking (presumably through a USB-to-serial

I know on my Linux box, I had to recompile the kernel to get the USB
networking functionality. I was hoping that the Mac would either just do it
(like it just does so many of the detailed items I used to have to worry
about) or that the BSD kernel would be similarly configurable. But I'm
having trouble finding information on how to proceed.

For the record, I'm trying to connect a IPAQ handheld running Familiar to my
iBook.

Re: [Fink-users] Installing KDE apps from tar files.

2003-02-21 Thread Rich Warren
Ok this worked for one of the projects. But two others didn't. I set the
environment variables as per the fink FAQ. I then used your script, which
compiled the first project perfectly.

On one of the others, I tried to follow the instructions below. However, I
got the following error:

# make -f admin/Makefile.common cvs
*** Creating aclocal.m4
*** Creating configure
configure.in:50: error: m4_popdef: undefined macro: AC_Dest

configure.in:50: the top level
autom4te: /sw/bin/gm4 failed with exit status: 1
make: *** [cvs] Error 1

Now, I believe these files may be an older version of KDE. I thought KDE was
backwards compatible. But could that be the problem?

Any other suggestions?

[Fink-users] kontour

2003-02-17 Thread Rich Warren
I installed the full kde bundle from unstable. Most things that I've
tried seem to be working. However, I'm having trouble with kontour.

I can draw polygons and ovals, but I cannot use the pencil tool to
draw. And whenever I try to convert an oval to paths, it crashes.

I'm not running KDE, rather, I just start kicker directly and launch
apps from the menu.

Also, I've noticed that the apps are not catching ctrl-clicks as right
clicks. For example, kbounce is unplayable without a three-button
mouse, since you need to right click to change the directions.

[Fink-users] x11 and kde

I've downloaded apple's new x11 and it seems to be working pretty well.

However, there are times when I may not want a rootless x server. For

It sounds like that is the way things were done before. People would
