Re: [Firebird-devel] gcc version for FB3 builds on SF
Le 05/11/2013 16:21, Alex Peshkoff a écrit : Hello all! It's time to decide what gcc version will be used as basic for FB3 builds. A1 was built using same compilers as 2.5, but this is IMO not a good option for future builds. Currently I see the following choices - use of something like gcc 4.6.4, which is not extra-fresh, but builds existing trunk without massive warnings. Or use something newer (4.7.3, 4.8.2) - but in this case we should better avoid some warnings added in this versions and related with c++1x compatibility. The main argument for older version (4.6) is accelerating fb3 release cycle. We may take anti-warning tour later for post-3.0 release. according to daily build and test, we have less warnings with 4.8.1 than with 4.6.3 under Ubuntu with gcc 4.6.3 : 87 warnings under Arch Linux with gcc 4.8.1 : 64 warnings I didn't tried yet with 4.8.2 but I would vote for as soon as possible even if I understand your arguments -- November Webinars for C, C++, Fortran Developers Accelerate application performance with scalable programming models. Personally, I'd rather prefer dash as a separator or no separator at all (the latter only if we keep short names). I don't care, underscore was just a suggestion (as pg use underscore) I would suggest: fb_backup, fb_security, fb_fixup, fb_stats and fb_precompile I believe gpre stands for preprocess, not precompile. I realize that the names are longer than the original, but they are much more meaningful Speaking about meanings, I'd suggest this change: gbak - fb_dump nbackup - fb_backup because IMO it better reflects their goals. it could be then fb-sql, fb-dump, fb-security, fb-fixup, fb-stat, fb-backup, fb-qli, fb-preprocess, fb-split, fb-qli or fb_sql, fb_dump, fb_security, fb_fixup, fb_stat, fb_backup, fb_qli, fb_preprocess, fb_split, fb_qli PS fbsql conflict with a Tcl interface to MySQL database and with one python module -- Monitor your physical, virtual and cloud infrastructure from a single web console. [Firebird-devel] cryptdb
For information : http://css.csail.mit.edu/cryptdb/ http://dspace.mit.edu/handle/1721.1/60876 From the front page : Online applications are vulnerable to theft of sensitive information because adversaries can exploit software bugs to gain access to private data, and because curious or malicious administrators may capture and leak data. CryptDB is a system that provides practical and provable confidentiality in the face of these attacks for applications backed by SQL databases. It works by executing SQL queries over encrypted data using a collection of efficient SQL-aware encryption schemes. CryptDB can also chain encryption keys to user passwords, so that a data item can be decrypted only by using the password of one of the users with access to that data. As a result, a database administrator never gets access to decrypted data, and even if all servers are compromised, an adversary cannot decrypt the data of any user who is not logged in. An analysis of a trace of 126 million SQL queries from a production MySQL server shows that CryptDB can support operations over encrypted data for 99.5% of the 128,840 columns seen in the trace. Our evaluation shows that CryptDB has low overhead, reducing throughput by 14.5% for phpBB, a web forum application, and by 26% for queries from TPC-C, compared to unmodified MySQL. Chaining encryption keys to user passwords requires 11-13 unique schema annotations to secure more than 20 sensitive fields and 2-7 lines of source code changes for three multi-user web applications. -- Write once.
