2018-02-26 Thread Philippe Makowski
Hi,

firebird-3.0.3.32900 doesn't build on Fedora rawhide with icu 60.2

Any idea on how to fix it ?

error: 'char16_t' does not name a type; did you mean 'charset'?
error: 'UChar' does not name a type; did you mean 'UChar32'?

etc..

Log:

Thanks

Fedora, Mageia, OpenSuse, RHEL/Centos, Debian have Firebird 3 and have
officially maintained packages

but each distro have particular rules to update or not a package to new
major release.

Are you looking for a specific distribution ?
Are you a packager in some distribution ?

but, I'm not sure that Fedora rules will really allow me to do so

[Firebird-devel] Firebird 3 packages on distro

2016-02-25 Thread Philippe Makowski
Hi,

I'm working on the Firebird 3 package for Centos 7

to have some coherence between distros , I took a look at :
https://build.opensuse.org/package/show/home:mkubecek:firebird30/firebird

and

https://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/pkg-firebird/3.0.git/

Can we coordinate our work ?

I like the way Debian split the package, Michal, what about doing the
same in Suse ? (I will certainly do the same in Mageia, Fedora and Centos)

About your patches Damian, why some are in out/ ?

seems that not completly if I look at
http://tracker.firebirdsql.org/browse/CORE-5099

and thread "Failure to build with GCC 6: cannot convert x to y"

just to say that next Fedora is in mass rebuild process now and the
final release is for 2016-05-24

so if we want Firebird 2.5 inside Fedora 24, we need to close CORE-5099

 Hi,

 Here are some notes for dev- and QA-teams:
 1. Please, check CI scripts, build and test environment.
 https://github.com/asfernandes/firebird/blob/master/.travis.yml
 Several tests produce errors, maybe because of misconfigured
 environment. For example, there is no 'make install' step.
 2. One test is very long, so I disabled it (bugs.core_0870).
 3. We need somehow to compare test results with QA team results in
 order to have similar results. How many tests are failing? etc...
 4. Do you need such tool (ci) at all? Are you interested?

see
http://ci.ibphoenix.com/job/Firebird_3.0_Linux_64/
and
http://web.firebirdsql.org/downloads/prerelease/results/

So we have ci and test for windows and Linux

2015-03-20 Thread Philippe Makowski
Sean,

2015-03-20 17:15 GMT+01:00 Leyne, Sean s...@broadviewsoftware.com:
 In the case of the PHI, having up to 61* helper processors which could be
 responsible for performing sorting/grouping for *any* running query (so a
 shared resource) would provide significant benefit. In the case of the PHI,
 each processor is a full x86 instance, so unlike GPU based solutions no
 specialized instructions set would be required.

that's the theory, but not the reality
using Ph mean using Intel software that cost a lot and for what I saw
not really perfoming better than GPU.
but I don't see any usage for Firebird here.
I aggree with Jim

 Error 0x14 means instruction fetch in user mode. As both IP and fault

 Pay attention - in python2.7 module. Firebird server does not use python.

but test suite use Python

seems that Pavel need to have a look at this, and it occurs after his

 If it happened in libfbclient2 function called from python, kernel would
 still show python, wouldn't it? But without at least a stack trace, it's
 not possible to tell which code to blame.

My last attempt with classic show the crash during test about
http://tracker.firebirdsql.org/browse/CORE-2307

But my other attempt with Superserver show the crash during test about
functional.monitoring.04

But I'm not sure that it is related to specific test ...

the test about CORE-2307 is :

- create a database
In the database :

set term ^ ;
EXECUTE BLOCK AS
DECLARE VARIABLE I INTEGER = 0;
BEGIN
   WHILE (I  1000)
   DO
 BEGIN
   EXECUTE statement 'CREATE TABLE T' || cast(:I as varchar(5)) || '
(C INTEGER)';
   I = I + 1 ;
 END
END ^
commit ^

EXECUTE BLOCK AS
DECLARE VARIABLE I INTEGER = 0;
BEGIN
   WHILE (I  1000)
   DO
 BEGIN
   EXECUTE statement 'INSERT INTO T' || cast(:I as varchar(5)) || '
(C) VALUES (1)';
   I = I + 1 ;
 END
END ^
commit ^

After that the python script is doing :

import fdb

db_conn = fdb.connect(
 host='localhost', database='/temp/test.db',
 user='sysdba', password='masterkey'
   )

sql = EXECUTE BLOCK AS
DECLARE VARIABLE N VARCHAR(31);
DECLARE VARIABLE I INTEGER;
BEGIN
   FOR SELECT RDB$RELATION_NAME
 FROM RDB$RELATIONS
 INTO :N
 DO
 BEGIN
   EXECUTE statement 'SELECT FIRST 1 1 FROM ' || :N INTO :I;
 END
END
c = db_conn.cursor()
c.execute(sql)
print (db_conn.db_info(kdb.isc_info_read_seq_count))

it should output :

Certainly yes left log from SS, since by default make install start

install and stop after to swith to Classic

so nothing in firebird.log related to Classic ...

 I suppose that the problem is that firebird also fails to start. What do
 we see in system log?
not so easy to get from automated build

 Not 100% sure, but looks like all this can be related with IPV6 support...

Yes I suspect that too
but build made just after IPV6 related commit didn't had this problem it
seems :
http://ci.ibphoenix.com/job/Firebird_trunk_on_Mageia_64/252/

or can it be both IPV6 and FDB changes ? because the first build that

the most I don't know, but like it or not all major distro use or will

We don't need to move from SF to Github and from svn to Git, now

But for now, SF and svn suit our needs.

[Firebird-devel] firebird fails to build if -Werror=format-security flag is used.

2013-12-04 Thread Philippe Makowski
From Fedora :

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1037062

In fact is is true, Mageia use -Werror=format-security since a long
time and to build Firebird package for Mageia I had to disable this (by
chance I can using %define Werror_cflags %{nil} in the rpm spec file)
but it is bad from the distro point of view.

and now the same problem arise for Fedora

Any volunteer to work on a patch ?

list seems to be :

 You need to set dummy password only to make gsec happy - it has a

 Plan to fix it.

 Hello all!

 It's time to decide what gcc version will be used as basic for FB3
 builds. A1 was built using same compilers as 2.5, but this is IMO not a
 good option for future builds.
 Currently I see the following choices - use of something like gcc 4.6.4,
 which is not extra-fresh, but builds existing trunk without massive
 warnings. Or use something newer (4.7.3, 4.8.2) - but in this case we
 should better avoid some warnings added in this versions and related
 with c++1x compatibility.

 The main argument for older version (4.6) is accelerating fb3 release
 cycle. We may take anti-warning tour later for post-3.0 release.

according to daily build and test, we have less warnings with 4.8.1 than
with 4.6.3

under Ubuntu with gcc 4.6.3 : 87 warnings
under Arch Linux with gcc 4.8.1 : 64 warnings

I didn't tried yet with 4.8.2 but I would vote for as soon as possible
even if I understand your arguments

[Firebird-devel] Trunk don't build on Ubuntu 12.04

2013-10-18 Thread Philippe Makowski
Alex,

your last changes give this results :
http://ci.ibphoenix.fr/job/Firebird30_Ubuntu_Linux/47/console

AUTORECONF=autoreconf

**Error**: You must have autoconf 2.63 or later installed.
Download the appropriate package for your distribution/OS,

Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Precise Pangolin) is not an old distribution (April
2012) and it have autoconf 2.68 it is a distro with Long Term Support
ending April 2017

Obviously the error message is wrong, since I see in your commit:
58703 by alexpeshkoff:
Avoid deprecated macros in configure.ac. Use autoconf 2.69 as basic for
FB3.

PS :
snapshots don't build too, they use a far older Debian Distro
Should I upgrade the snapshot builder ?

 for example :
 fb_sql, fb_bak, fb_sec, fb_fix, fb_stat, fb_nbackup, fb_qli, fb_pre,

 fb_qli

 Basically, I agree with a new (and consistent) prefix. Personally, I'd
 rather prefer dash as a separator or no separator at all (the latter
 only if we keep short names).

I don't care, underscore was just a suggestion (as pg use underscore)

 I would suggest:

 fb_backup, fb_security, fb_fixup, fb_stats and fb_precompile

 I believe gpre stands for preprocess, not precompile.

 I realize that the names are longer than the original, but they are much
 more meaningful

 Speaking about meanings, I'd suggest this change:

 gbak - fb_dump
 nbackup - fb_backup

 because IMO it better reflects their goals.

it could be then

fb-sql, fb-dump, fb-security, fb-fixup, fb-stat, fb-backup, fb-qli,
fb-preprocess, fb-split,
fb-qli

or

fb_sql, fb_dump, fb_security, fb_fixup, fb_stat, fb_backup, fb_qli,
fb_preprocess, fb_split, fb_qli

PS fbsql conflict with a Tcl interface to MySQL database

why not use a daemon for that, you can also use event with them to tell

[Firebird-devel] cryptdb

2011-12-21 Thread Philippe Makowski
For information :

http://css.csail.mit.edu/cryptdb/
http://dspace.mit.edu/handle/1721.1/60876

From the front page :

Online applications are vulnerable to theft of sensitive information
because adversaries can exploit software bugs to gain access to private
data, and because curious or malicious administrators may capture and
leak data. CryptDB is a system that provides practical and provable
confidentiality in the face of these attacks for applications backed by
SQL databases. It works by executing SQL queries over encrypted data
using a collection of efficient SQL-aware encryption schemes. CryptDB
can also chain encryption keys to user passwords, so that a data item
can be decrypted only by using the password of one of the users with
access to that data. As a result, a database administrator never gets
access to decrypted data, and even if all servers are compromised, an
adversary cannot decrypt the data of any user who is not logged in. An
analysis of a trace of 126 million SQL queries from a production MySQL
server shows that CryptDB can support operations over encrypted data for
99.5% of the 128,840 columns seen in the trace. Our evaluation shows
that CryptDB has low overhead, reducing throughput by 14.5% for phpBB, a
web forum application, and by 26% for queries from TPC-C, compared to
unmodified MySQL. Chaining encryption keys to user passwords requires
11-13 unique schema annotations to secure more than 20 sensitive fields
and 2-7 lines of source code changes for three multi-user web applications.

So reliability have a real cost
hard to have perf and reliability
I really wonder if we can't get MaxUnflushedWrites or something like
that under Linux too
I would be curious to do same test with this parameter under Linux

it will not be really safe, but at least a medium solution for people
because between
 5467.10 tpmC (FW OFF and noatime,async,data=ordered,barrier=1)
and
 165.11 tpmC (FW ON and noatime,async,data=ordered,barrier=1)
seems that there is a room

 Even in the paranoid mode (MaxUnflushedWrites = 1) they still don't

would it be hard to have it in the good order
or to have something like in PG

[Firebird-devel] [FB-Tracker] Created: (CORE-3638) The FR_FR collation appear to be completely weird.

The FR_FR collation appear to be completely weird.
--

 Key: CORE-3638
 URL: http://tracker.firebirdsql.org/browse/CORE-3638
 Project: Firebird Core
  Issue Type: Bug
  Components: Charsets/Collation
Affects Versions: 2.5.1, 2.1.4, 2.5.0, 2.0.6, 3.0 Initial, 2.1.3, 2.1.2,
2.0.5, 2.1.1, 2.1.0, 3.0 Alpha 1, 2.0.7, 2.5.2, 2.1.5, 3.0 Beta 1, 3.0.0
Reporter: Philippe Makowski
Priority: Minor

The FR_FR collation appear to be completely weird.

0) Reason for FR_FR existence seems to be to remove accents, as otherwise would
be identical to FR_CA.

1) But some (most tilde/diaresis) letters are not removed when uppering.

2) Already upper-case letters don't lose the accents when uppered. I suppose
this is inconsistent with 1.

3) Lower-case is identical to FR_CA. Also seems inconsistent with 1.

it concerne all FR_FR collations : DB_FRA437,DB_FRA850, FR_FR, NEXT_FRA

IMHO FR_FR should be the same than FR_CA

perhaps we could have a FR_AI instead ?

Target is 3.0
no backport to not break existing code and index that rely on FR_FR

[Firebird-odbc-devel] creating rpm for Mageia and Fedora

2011-10-10 Thread Philippe Makowski
Hi,

I would like to create a rpm for Mageia and for Fedora

First problem :
setting FBINCDIR and FBLIBDIR
for Mageia and Fedora they have to be set to :

FBINCDIR=/usr/include/firebird/
FBLIBDIR=/usr/lib64/

or
FBINCDIR=/usr/include/firebird/
FBLIBDIR=/usr/lib/

makefile.environ seems to be modified for that

after a ugly patch
(just putting FBINCDIR=/usr/include/firebird/
FBLIBDIR=/usr/lib64/ after line 40 in makefile.environ)

the build fail :

cd ./Builds/Gcc.lin
make -f makefile.linux
../makefile.environ:12: ARCH is x86_64
../makefile.environ:27: ODBCMANAGER is unixODBC in /usr/lib64
../makefile.environ:48: FBINCDIR is /usr/include/firebird/
../makefile.environ:54: FBLIBDIR is /usr/lib64/

[Firebird-devel] [FB-Tracker] Reopened: (CORE-1688) ANSI SQL2003 Window Functions

2011-10-03 Thread Philippe Makowski (JIRA)

ok so I reopen this one
and please add sub tasks for
percent_rank()
cume_dist()
ntile(num_buckets integer)
first_value(value any)
last_value(value any)
nth_value(value any, nth integer)

 ANSI SQL2003 Window Functions
 -

 Key: CORE-1688
 URL: http://tracker.firebirdsql.org/browse/CORE-1688
 Project: Firebird Core
  Issue Type: New Feature
  Components: Engine
Reporter: Philippe Makowski
Assignee: Adriano dos Santos Fernandes
Priority: Minor
 Fix For: 3.0 Alpha 1

 After CTE, it would be nice to have ANSI SQL Window Functions
 SQL2003 allows for a window_clause in aggregate function calls, the addition
 of which makes those functions into window functions.
 SQL2003 specifies the following syntax for window functions:
 FUNCTION_NAME(expr) OVER {window_name|(window_specification)}
 window_specification ::= [window_name][partitioning][ordering][framing]
 partitioning ::= PARTITION BY value [, value...] [COLLATE collation_name]
 ordering ::= ORDER [SIBLINGS] BY rule [, rule...]
 rule ::= {value|position|alias} [ASC|DESC] [NULLS {FIRST|LAST}]
 framing ::= {ROWS|RANGE} {start|between} [exclusion]
 start ::= {UNBOUNDED PRECEDING|unsigned-integer PRECEDING|CURRENT ROW}
 between ::= BETWEEN bound AND bound
 bound ::= {start|UNBOUNDED FOLLOWING|unsigned-integer FOLLOWING}
 exclusion ::= {EXCLUDE CURRENT ROW|EXCLUDE GROUP
   |EXCLUDE TIES|EXCLUDE NO OTHERS}
 List of Window Functions
 CUME_DIST( ) OVER {window_name|(window_specification)} : Calculates the
 cumulative distribution, or relative rank, of the current row to other rows
 in the same partition
 DENSE_RANK( ) OVER {window_name|(window_specification)} : Assigns a rank to
 each row in a partition, which should be ordered in some manner. The rank for
 a given row is computed by counting the number of rows preceding the row in
 question, and then adding 1 to the result. Rows with duplicate ORDER BY
 values will rank the same. Unlike the case with RANK( ), gaps in rank numbers
 will not result from two rows sharing the same rank.
 RANK( ) OVER {window_name|(window_specification)} : Assigns a rank to each
 row in a partition, which should be ordered in some manner. The rank for a
 given row is computed by counting the number of rows preceding the row in
 question, and then adding 1 to the result. Rows with duplicate ORDER BY
 values will rank the same, and will lead to subsequent gaps in rank numbers.
 PERCENT_RANK( ) OVER ({window_name|(window_specification)} : Computes the
 relative rank of a row by dividing that row's rank less 1 by the number of
 rows in the partition, also less 1
 ROW_NUMBER( ) OVER ({window_name|(window_specification)} : Assigns a unique
 number to each row in a partition.
