[firebird-support] DB upgrade questions

2012-12-02 Thread Robert martin
Hi

We are looking to migrate our users from super server 2.0 to super
classic 2.5.2. We have been waiting for FB 3 but can't hold off any
later. I have a couple of questions...

1) Is SuperClassic the best be, we want to improve multi user performance?
2) Can 32bit ODBC connect to 64bit installs? Are there any other pit
falls moving from 32bit to 64bit server (our app is 32bit)

Thanks Rob

Bittnes on client and server can be choosen as needed. In any case your
application requires 32Bit client libs. You can choose bitness of server
as you like (os as your server OS requires).

Additionally to Elmar's reply. As SuperClassic makes use of a local
cache per connection and as SC is based on a single process, SC only
makes sense as a 64-bit server, at least for medium and larger
installations.

When moving from a 32-bit to a 64-bit Firebird server, keep in mind that
UDF libraries need to be compiled for 64-bit.
