Misha

I have been doing dressage for years, but would go to enormous lengths to
find excuses not to actually take my horse to a competition day. Loved the
lessons, loved the training but something about the competition just wasn't
me.

I finally gave up and have withdrawn from the dressage scene - no great
loss I was never an ace competitor, just a weekend dabbler) and have never
been happier with my horses. I used to think it was because I am not very
competitive by nature, but gradually the truth dawned on me. I can't stand
the getting dressed up. Me or the horses.

SO as a swan around the paddock in my riding tights (black stretchy
things with a full deerskin seat which I bought over the internet from US)
and my baggy T shirts I am happy. If my horses ever get shown, I might just
have to get somebody else to do it and I can be the messy strapper in the
background!.

I am still smarting because I had to buy a white halter to present my
Friesian to the evaluators and I hate the blasted thing. Waste of money.

Lynn

Hey Gayle well that's why I ride in those Miller's jeans with the knee
patches. Those darn things are pretty comfy. But then again, not very
western. Who knows what they are. Okay I think I vote for Mongolian style
baggy pants tucked in tall soft boots and a leather full seat. Ha. Now
that
would be comfort, and sticky to the saddle too, which on Ingmar who moves
big and who moves FAST is a big plus!!

Then you have this sort of tunic affair so when you sit in the saddle
your
shirt doesn't creep up if you are flat out. Maybe we could learn a thing
or
two from those horse culture people, they start riding at five years old.
They spend a lot of time in the saddle.

I think I might actually enter a horse show if I could wear what I wanted
to, use what tack I liked. You know when I rode in dressage I liked the
schooling show clothes, like paddock boots and a sweatshirt and riding
breeches. Pretty comfy stuff that. I never made it to a real show because
I
couldn't bring myself to buy the duds.

Pretty bratty I know. Life is too short. I work so hard all the time. If
I
want to ride I want to have some fun. I think we all work too darn hard.
I
think life is for living until you're not there anymore.

But hey, for people that like to show and wear the correct outfits and
have
all matching tack etc. More power to ya. I enjoy watching and I will
cheer
and ooohh and ahhh support you from the stands to beat the band and I
will
 mean it!!!

Rules Regulations galore!

Along those same lines, under Western Section, concerning attire, it also
says that necktie, kerchief or bolo tie, trousers or pants, chaps and boots
are required! Usually neck ties and chaps are optional in other rule books.

Sigh!...all this and NO jeans? Well, there goes my show career, if I ever
had one. Life's too short and I'm too old to learn all those rules and
regulations. I'll be perfectly content to ride my horses around home and
maybe take them to a Fun Day once in a while. I'll be leanin' on the
fence, relaxed and happy, watchin' all the rest of you... ;-)

Thanks Mary regarding the weight tapes. When I look at Gunnar's girth and
mass and his short legs I think I have underestimated him, thinking he was
around 900 lbs. This worming I wormed him at 1200, he is 13:1 or 2

Pellet stall bedding

This message is from: PSB [EMAIL PROTECTED]

My apologies for posting this question to the digest, it's really intended
for Peg Knutson.

Peg you had written about trying the pellet bedding. After a few weeks
how do you feel about it? Is the brand Bear Mountain Dry Den? Any problems
with the animals and the pellets or humans and pellets? Curious if any
slippage from the horse as they run into the stall (my horses have stall
runs that they can access at will).

I was contemplating using this product and wanted to get feed back from a
previous user.

 Well Gayle:

Since I always wear jeans to everything, even formal events. I think the
rules of no jeans are dumb. Anyway, that is what people usually wear in
western classes. Slacks are whussy. Ha. Since I don't show, I can say what
I want to and one of the reasons I don't show is because I hate people
telling me what to do. So there. I think, horse is clean and cared for,
same with rider, I don't care if you dress up in a Mongolian tunic, in
fact, I think it would be cool.

I tell you what, when I watch you and Dusty glide out into the arena I
don't notice what either one of you are wearing, hells bells there is a
 team for ya.

Misha,

WE AGREE TOTALLY! this discriminatory regulation is ridiculous! Gene just
about went through the ceiling when he read that one.

Which is correct; a one hundred dollar pair of new designer jeans or a 25
cent pair of 30-year old polyester slacks from Good Will? The first a
natural fiber, the second a synthetic pollutant!!

This could be regarded as a prejudicial slam against country folk! the
heart of America, the home of the Fjord! well, what more can I say... (I'll
think of something =) You know you can slide right out of the saddle in
those danged plastic pants! They should outlaw them.

We have had FOUR FILLIES within one week's time, two in one day! This has
been one exciting week I'll tell you. They all look great too. All out of
our beloved stallion, A2Z Thorson, who oversees the production paddock and
barns, knickering encouragement (enticement?)

Now for the challenge of naming them! Mike, put us down for one Buttercup
if you will, please =).

Although we have several names to choose from we like to observe them a few
days before we decide on a final name.

Why is this all so tiring when it's so darned much fun? A guy showed me how
to send photos out this week but in all the excitement I have forgotten how
(temporarily, I trust). =) Thank God for the sun shining on our new little
fluffy lambs. (after last week's snow storm).
