Hello from Carol Rivoire at Beaver Dam Farm in Nova Scotia,

Catherine, thanks for listing this information, but how much more helpful
it would be if you told us who these horses are by listing their sires,
dams, and dam's sires. They certainly must have been listed that way in
the Keuring programs. I don't mean to pick on you, Catherine, as I do
appreciate your posting this information, but not listing Sire, Dam, Dam's
Sire info is one of my most long-standing peeves. It absolutely drives me
up the wall! Looking at these names and registration numbers tells me
nothing. If I had some pedigree informatiion (sire, dam, dam's sire), it
would tell me quite a bit. Perhaps I wouldn't know all the lines, but I'd
certainly recognize some of them, and thereby improve my knowledge of Fjord
breeding.

It would also help if you'd tell us what the numerical scores stand for.
Numbers 1 - 5. Which one is movement? Which one type? Which one legs?

As far as furthering our Fjord education, it's as necessary to know the
parentage of the ones that got no premium as it is the First and Second
place horsees.

If you have all that information, there must be many people on the List
that would appreciate it. It's tedious, I know, but hopefully you will be
able to post the results. Thanks so much,

Best Regards, Carol Rivoire

If you roach it down to nothing (a good way to start over if
you let it get long and flopping every which way) it really doesn't
look
 that great on most Fjords

I took I believe it was Lisa's advice and roached Gus's maneand I
have to say he looked GREAT with it..so great that I am keeping it
that waymade his neck look better and his crest doesn't fall over
now. Everyone who has seen his new 'do' really likes itI know, you
all are probably cringing, but he really does look like a cool dude

Does anyone else think this year was strange for foaling? ALL of our mares
(counting the ones Rustin also breed to ) went way over in their
gestation.

Gestation? Both colts born in Mar. and Apr. took exactly 11 mon. and 3
days. We had a filly born May 7... she took an extra day. These are
first time mommies and they are all doing fine.

I don't think it would work for me, because they do it for more than just
food but to visit with all and sundry. It's not like anything really grows
here. But maybe now that they're in a different environ, they'll do
something different.

My tenant in Albuquerque had a horse pregnant with her first this year and
she was ok at dinner and dead in the morning. I have heard of more losses
this year. And then with Sue's loss, I'm afraid my girls may be joining the
cloister. I guess if you don't want to lead with your heart, you just
shouldn't have horses, but ouch.

Ok, so when I get desperate I will take off my mule's mane to start
over,
but otherwise, just like the Fjord, she gets her mane trimmed into a nice
arch! No, I do NOT keep it roached!!! YUK!! It is a bit shorter
than the Fjord's, though.
I am taking my gelding, Nattmann, to Turlock. Besides wanting to have
some idea on my own as to how typically Fjordy he is, it helps the breeder
to know that they are on the right track, too, with their breeding program.
So, it isn't as much of a futile effort to take a gelding to an evaluation
as
one might think, but can be very constructive for both the owner and the
breeder! But, how could any breeder go wrong with these cuties??!!! So,
there's my thought on the subjectand GOOD! for all you bringing
geldings!!!
Back to manesthe white is gone in the middle of Nattmann's
mane.oops, oh well! So, I am supposed to evenly clip the white 1/4
below the black, and have it look GOOD??!?! So far my efforts are
definitely
sub par! Anyone in Turlock doing manes for those of us that are
scissor/mane
challenged so that we may present our Fjords to their best advantage in the
evaluation and for the show!??!?!??!?!? (We at least can do the halter
class).

Hello Listers!

Carla was sold this morning! She is going back to Carole Rivoire and Anne is
thrilled!
She was so worried about making sure she got a good home! Mid June she will
head back to Canada, kind of like she has been on a long vacation!! Carole,
you can store all that wonderful tack and equipment at my house if you want!
LOL! :-)

Dena is getting quite bagged up and nearing her time! We are hoping for a
Konggard filly, that we will keep and add to the brood mare herd. Doing a
tally of the birth dates and ages for the coggins tests, WOW! I can't
believe that Stella is almost 14! We have had her for 10 years! Dena will be
18 and Rosita is 20! Stella is bred to Hilmar, last month, and Rosita, also.
Dena will go back to Konggard.
We are going to look at some farms in VT next Tuesday, one of which is
20A, more field available at a later date, has an indoor and out door ring,
dressage size! Maybe I will be come a DQ. Of course a Dairy Queen would be
more my style! It has 13 rubber matted stalls in a climate controlled barn
and a huge heated tack room. The house is fairly new and needs no work! All
of the land is fenced with nice wood fences. 5 big paddock/fields and one
huge one that includes some woods. Just our kind of place. All set to just
move in! Dick is looking at having to have surgery done on his neck discs,
should have been done back in '94 but he'd had enough surgery done by that
time. The pain is where it isn't manageable, without alot of meds. Him and
meds don't mix! Kind of gives him a bad attitude! The plan is that he
won't get the operation done until fall, when we hope to be settled into a
new farm by then.
Enjoy all the good weather and those of you with
rain.please send it our way!!!Sue g.

Geldings and Evaluations

2001-05-11 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED]

For those of you that own geldings and wonder if it is good to evaluate your
gelding.

Yes!

It is a reflection of the mare and stallion that produced your gelding. The
mare and stallion of the gelding are able to be rewarded for having good off
spring. The only way to find out and be rewarded is by having all Fjords go
through the program.

It will add value to your horse and you can find out important information
for future training.

Form to Function is what the Evaluator Trainees have been taught. Your
gelding may not be able to do some function of riding if he is not built for
it. The evaluation should help you assess you gelding's structure and help
you with his future potential.

We shave our Fjords manes off, down to skin in the begining of winter,
once major shows are done. They look worse than drowned rats, they look
skinned Almost cry when I see them. BUT, in 3 weeks, better even at 6
weeks, they have a picture perfect Fjord mane, with a tiny sizzors shaping,
and retain a beautiful arch all summer with few trims. Keeps those aged Fjord
