Hi Fellow Fjordlovers,

It's a pleasure to be a new member of the Fjord Digest. I was unaware that
such a group
existed until just this week. Your e-mails are certainly very enjoyable and
informative.

You will all be happy to hear that I have the Fjord gelding here on Green
Meadow Farm
who was to be shipped off to a supposed rescue league (Crossed Sabers). He's
happy,
healthy and turned out with his mother and our other Fjords. The best news
is that he now
belongs to me and will never have to face that fate again! He's been in
training on Green
Meadow all last season and is ready for long lining and ground driving this
Spring. He will
probably be offered for sale eventually, but I would like to have him under
saddle first. If
anyone is interested in him and has the ability to finish him themselves, I
would love hearing
from you.

With best regards,

And can they SNORE!! Sometimes when they're flat out on their side and
really pass out they can make the worst snoring noises I have ever heard
that can be heard from quite a distance-- some guests have been incredulous
over their snoring abilities. Ruthie, nw mt

Hello,

I have not read anything on the subject, but have watched them 'dream' many
times.

Last weekend one of the gals who works for me, motioned for me to come over.
She was standing in front of Johan's (our 3 year old gray stallion) stall.
She was giggling and pointed into the stall. Johan was laying flat and was
definitely far off in la-la land. He was nickering softly and moving. Just
an educated guess on my part, but think I could honestly say that he was NOT
dreaming about FOOD! LOL!

I think the neatest horse I ever saw dreaming was several years ago at
Schweitzer Ski Mountain. I had taken a group of my clients up there for a
day to go on sleigh rides with Chip Lamb, who had several of his Fjords there
during the winters providing sleigh rides and horse shuttle service.

He had a really nice barn there, heated by a wood stove for folks to huddle
around when it was cold. The people could watch the horses being harnessed,
pet them, etc. There were stalls for the horses inside there too.

This particular day, one of the pregnant mares had decided to catch a cat
nap. She was lying flat, her foal was moving around quite a bit - and she
was nickering softly to it each time it moved! Everyone gathered around to
watch. TOO KOOL!

Yes, horses do dream!

Hi Tammy,

I don't know of any studies of horses dreaming, but I know that they
dream. I found my stalion Borgen asleep in the sunny, but he was
whinning and moving. It was the spring, I think he was dreaming of the
girls. The whinny that he was making in his dream was the same one that
he calls the mares with. I woke him up when I walked by and he looked
around as much as the say "Well where are they".
