Re: West Nile questions
This message is from: Karen Keith [EMAIL PROTECTED] Dear List: I am in Colorado, and just this week saw a news item on West Nile virus. It said a dead crow was found with the virus in Lincoln, Nebraska, the closest it had been found so far to Denver (just under 500 miles according to MapQuest). Time to get the vax from the vet. Re: Re: Dogs\Flies and Foals
This message is from: Reena [EMAIL PROTECTED] I have to throw in my two cents here. A friend of mine had a Australian Cattle Dog..cute as bug, but no matter what she did this dog wanted to HERD!it would circle the horses endlessly when they were out. The only thing she could do would be to lock her up. she even wanted to 'herd' my kids! The dog did get kicked a few times, nothing serious, but still it would herd. That is just what they are meant to do This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Peter wrote: ... 2) I have a new dog who is just great with our three small kids and wonderful on the farm except where horses are concerned The dog is a Shep\Collie mix, one year old and always been in a city Your dog is genetically programed to have a strong instinct to herd. It may be difficult to ever reliably train this dog not to herd your horses. Horse kicks and human punishment will ~not~ deter a herding dog, speaking from experience. --- Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). Re: Meadowbrook carts
This message is from: Karen Keith [EMAIL PROTECTED] Please consider bailing out as a last resort, in danger of losing your life. You and your horse will generally have a better outcome if you can stay in the carriage and provide guidance. If you are real new to driving, I would start out with an easy entry cart. They are much easier to bail out of if necessary. That being said, I too prefer the easy entry style vehicle as opposed to a meadowbrook, but I'm not keen on the little pipe carts. Just not sturdy enough in my book. A Fjord put to a pipe cart is an awful lot of engine to a mighty lightweight vehicle. If you're looking for a good-looking, easy-entry style cart which will take you from pleasure driving to combined driving, contact me privately. I am an importer of steel competition carriages from Australia, and the fully dismantle-able and adjustable jinker may be just what you are looking for. Cheers! This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Hi Taffy : My neighbor ( who has 11 Fjords) and myself use Aussie saddles all the time with our Fjords. They work great, we have some with and some without the horn. We bought ours off of Ebay, they go for about $200. Make sure that you buy one with a wide tree. Best of Luck, Judy Phelps Chelan, Wa.

This message is from: Carol J. Makosky [EMAIL PROTECTED] Hi, We in Wisconsin are experiencing our first cases of chronic wasting disease (CWD). Is there a sight for more info on this or can anyone in the west give more info to me. I am rather concerned with eating venison that may have this. We can't seem to get reliable information if this can be transmitted to humans. -- Built FJORD tough Carol M. On Golden Pond Northern Wisconsin

Update from San Jose, CA, and fjords girls off to Norway (yes this is long)
This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Hi Everyone- Well, I'm all set to sit in a tiny chair for 15 hours and magically emerge in Norway! So excited about this vacation, the first real one I've taken in years. Dagrun is boarding her plane tonight (business class with free miles) and I'm boarding tomorrow (econo). When I arrive on Sunday it will be my 31st birthday. How much excitement can I handle all at once?? ;-) We should have internet access and will be posting to the list, describing our many Fjord-related adventures. Dagrun will be competing in the Fjord Nationals, while I'm her cheering section and photographer! My next post will be from Oslo.
