5 PMU Mares

2003-01-06 Thread BaileysFjords
This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Hello everyone,

I have just been contacted late this evening by a PMU farmer in Alberta, CN
who needs to place 5 of his mares. They are all purebred although not
registered, he will be faxing me all of their paperwork within a few days.
Apparently, they are able to be registered just he did not have the need to
do so. Between 2-3 have been bred, the others open. Some have been trained
to ride. Ages range from 12-20, and they are large girls. He says they are
all very nice and well mannered, he requires this of his mares but is
replacing his purebreds with crossbreeds of various breeds. This is all of
the information I have.

Needless to say, I will be starting to fund raise again for the purchase of
these girls ASAP as he is on a time limit to place them. Please help us to
save these girls!

Thanks,

Lynda C. Welch

Pamela,
Well, I DID sell it, and found a used saddle on Ebay (Hubertus/AP/ Dressage
model).
It fits my mares like a glove, from front to back, has a nice seat for me,
and even fits the WB fairly well. I took it down to Turlock to show Dagrun,
and she said she had seen some in Norway I think. I love the wintec design
philosophy though, and I use webber stirrup l"leathers" and just got a new
elastic girth (seems the girth is inside, as opposed to sewn on to ends.
If I had the big buck$ to spend on a new saddle, I'd get a Balance saddle
probably.

One of the reasons I decided to abandon (for now) the Isabell, is that even
if my S.O. Dave the shoer tweaked the steel gulet plate to open up a bit
more, (like he wanted to!), the rest of the saddle was still not fitting
thru the back and would have req'd someone to come out and change the
flocking, ugh! If I have a saddle re-flocked, it's gonna be something I
REALLY like & can't live w/o. JMHO

Hi DeeAnna-

Unfortunately they don't always fit every horse, the same saddle that is. The
good news is, they're custom made. The distributor I use encourages buyers to
first borrow and try a saddle before spending the $, then send photos and a
description of their horse. Some adjustments can be made for very high or
mutton withered animals.

I use an Otto Schumacher Dressage saddle, wide tree. It has fit all the fjords
I have tried it on, and amazingly, a couple of arabs, morgans, one
thoroughbred, and several QHs. I have never had such a comfortable, easy
saddle for most horses. However, it is VERY expensive.

I just got a Thorowgood Griffin A/P Broadback English saddle for Christmas.
While, granted, still in the trial stage, I am very pleased. It fits both of
the 2 fjords that are broke and it sets very prettily on Mika. However, I do
need to get a new saddle blanket, girth and leathers. :-)

This weekend we rode both days! I don't know how long that it has been since
I have been able to get 2 days in a row in. Only marginally stiff for me and
Tana went past the alumimum feeder clanging pigs with just a couple of
snorts.

Hello everyone,

We have two routes scheduled for January, and one in February.

The first will leave Michigan either January 17th or 24th, going through the
Ontario peninsula to eastern New York, and coming back the same route.

The second route leaves Michigan January 31st, going to Wisconsin, Illinois,
Oklahoma, possibly Texas, Arkansas, then back to Michigan.

The third route is scheduled for mid February leaving from Michigan and going
to Idaho and back.

If anyone needs a horse or pony transported to these states, or any states
along this route, please let us know and we will give you a quote. References
are available. Please respond privately either at [EMAIL PROTECTED] or
give us a call at 231-689-9902.

As a side note, due to requests we have had in the past we feel it necessary
to explain our policy regarding transporting. We offer free choice hay
(preferably hay they are used to from the farm they are leaving), water, and
breaks every 4 hours. They also will get an overnight rest.

Please do not ask us to drive straight through and to not give breaks, we
will not do this. We realize the cost for you could be less, certainly, but
we will not transport our own horses or ponies in this fashion, nor will we
anyone else's. Our goal is to have the horses and ponies arrive to their new
farm in the best possible condition with the least amount of trauma. This is
a tried and proven practice for transporting as safely as possible.

Thanks,

If the existing Wintec gullets are too narrow for your horse, you don't need to
sell your Wintec saddle or wait until they come out with an even wider gullet.
Rather, you can get most any blacksmith to bend your Wintec gullet out to any
angle you desire. I had this done to the gullets of two Wintecs years ago, and
it worked fine. It should be much easier to install now with the
interchangable gullet system.

I have one of these too and like it very much. It fits two of my horses
very well -- gelding Finn and his momma Sissel. They have moderate,
withers and are well rounded through the barrel -- much like most Fjords
I suspect. The saddle sits up nicely off the spine and does not press
into their shoulders.

The sports saddle doesn't work for my other gelding Toupen, however --
he has well defined, high withers -- and the sports saddle mashes down
hard on his back. He wears a "Cheyenne" model saddle made by Tucker with
the wide tree.

Absolutely!! This is one of the things I have noticed with many people and
all kinds of horses. "Whoa" is used to mean too many things To stop - as
it should be, but also to slow down, to stop fidgeting, as a calming word
when they're nervous, etc. In my opinion, whoa is too important to be used
so frequently.

This is from Joel Harman

So the trainer falls then asks the horse to stop so she will not get
drug(dragged?) Horse does not stop. "flight" response took over.

Horse gets worked more. Does the horse learn to stop when the trainer
asks it to? Did the lesson end when the horse stopped when asked?

Whoa means stop moving foward when the human asks - no matter what is
going on behind the horse - no matter what the horse wants to do. Whoa
means stop moving foward - now.

OK, I realize there are a plethora of disgusting "reality" shows currently on

consumption of horse flesh is not an issue in other countries BUT if you feel
