[...] > Shawna in OR All I know is what I read in the newspaper My infamous "Fjord Info" file contains a clipping that my in-laws sent me from the Eugene, OR newspaper of Feb 25, 1990. It's an article about 2 Fjords (a mare, Iris, and her filly, Freya) at the Oregon State University vet school. The filly has equine degenerative myeloencephalopathy, a metabolic disorder that keeps the animal from properly absorbing vitamin E, which in turn causes what appears to be "wobbler" syndrome. It is treatable with "massive doses of the vitamin". The problem is thought to be genetic, so they were going to try to breed more horses with the problem, so they could better study it. However, it is not limited to Fjords. The article states, "The problem in horses is widespread. It's probably responsible for up to 50 percent of all wobbler horses, depending on where you are in the country". The vets working on it were Morrie Craig, Linda Blythe, and Duane Lassen. You might see what Google turns up when searching on the term, or the authors, to see what they have found out about it, since then. vitamin E deficiency
This message is from: "shawna smith" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> I had the vet out the other day and she mentioned that there had been a fjord in the vet school she attended. She proceeded to tell me, briefly, about a neurological problem found in fjords that is related to a vitamin E deficiency. I'd like to learn more about this so calling on the list for some thoughts. Thanks, Shawna in OR
VEnture North
This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] I saw the Davises (Ron and Kit) on Venture North. That is how I found out where to buy my first horse. I wonder if you saw a repeat of that broadcast? I think they have had an updated version done too. They live Northeast of Duluth in Culver, MN. They have about 3 or 4 stallions and a bunch of mares. Suzan in cold and clammy Northern MInnesota -but we still have pansies blooming in the whiskey barrel.

This message is from: "lassesen" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> DUSTY'S ADVENTURE: Way to go GAYLE! Let us know what newspaper covered it... A copy of the article would be great... UNIFICATION: NFHR is associated with more than one country. We have Fjords registered in 3 or more countries. Thus... best to just be NFHR. (In my humble opinion) Catherine Lassesen HESTEHAVEN where it is 22F this morning. Brr!

Dusty barely wiggled an ear at her, but it was really unnerving for me to turn around and see this black she-devil heading straight for us, tail straight in the air, blowing snot (I swear she was GROWLING!), and that awful PINK eye. Thought for a minute I even saw flames coming from her nostrils! Well, maybe that is a bit of a STRETCH! LOL! Gayle Ware Field of Dreams Eugene, OR www.fjordhorse.com
