Subject: Potomac Fever Warning

This message is from: sharon knipe [EMAIL PROTECTED]

 Hi All

I don't often send messages, but I feel this warning is important. Our
farm
is located near Red Deer, Alberta and 2 weeks ago our 2 year old filly
came
down with Potomac Fever. We just about lost her. It came on very quickly
with explosive diarrhea and depression. We watched her for 1 day and then
called out the vet. We had ro give her 20 liters of electrolytes by IV
along
with mega injections of antibiotics several times a day. On the 4th day we
added Kayopectate to the other meds. Fortunately she came around and it
looks
like she is going to be ok. She is her sassy self again.

We asked about inoculating agaist Potomac Fever and were told that it is
not a
common illness and there was no need to do it. Needless to say we will be
inoculating the other 3 horses next spring. This illness came be fatal -
so
it your horses are showing depression, diarrhea, unsure footing and
dehydration - please get your vet out. Thankgoodness our little girl
looks to
 be on the mend

This stumbling thing is interesting. My gelding stumbles. I'll have to
consider saddle placement, as well.

Cheers!

Karen

If you are setting the saddle over his shoulder blades, he is apt to
stumble. It will impede the movement of his shoulder blade and affect
hisstride.I see a lot of pictures of Fjords under saddle that have the

saddles too far forward.

the seat on the 4beat saddle, is a 'web suspended, leather ground seat'
what ever that means! but seems to suggest the weight must wind up
distributed somehow if the rider is not just directly on the bars. It is
correct to describe this saddle not as a flexible tree, but as a flexible
bar saddle.

SNF Mirakel – (SNF Ingebrigt x SNF Anna) 14.1 1998 brown dun mare registered
with the Norwegian Fjord Horse Registry. Mirakel is a very pretty mare who
is easy and uncomplicated to ride. She has a beautiful head! Mirakel is
always eager for work and loves attention and people - she nickers every
time you walk by! She also lunges, ground drives, and has been started over
small jumps. She has been received a red ribbon in Conformation through the
NFHR Evaluation system. We took her to her first show, a local hunter/jumper
show, where she impressed the judges with her excellent behavior. She placed
in her first classes ever! Mirakel has also been out on trails. She would
make an excellent driving horse. She is game for anything! Other horses also
available. Please visit our website at

Email [EMAIL PROTECTED] or call 513-932-1441 for more information,
