CONGRATULATIONS to Dan and Solveig Watanabe of Olivia Farm.

Their Fall Fjord Festival drew a very nice crowd on Sept 30. In
only a year Dan and Solveig have made great progress in
developing their new farm north of Spokane. The miles of forest
roads/trails constructed by Dan provided a great tour for the trail
riders and the carts/wagons. We have a gracious group of Fjord
owners in this area and they shared their carts and wagons with
visitors who don't yet own Fjords. Some guests were treated to
a sample of driving a single or pair of Fjords for the first time in
the large open field surrounding Dan and Solveig's dressage arena.
The noon intermission for german sausages, chicken breasts and
hamburgers hit the spot. Thanks also to Mother Nature for
providing perfect weather for the day.

Kudos to PNFPG

2006-10-03 Thread Robert Rosen
This message is from: Robert Rosen [EMAIL PROTECTED]

As a once very active PNFPG member and Libby Show participant for
several years I have continued my interest mostly through reading the
Digest. Although I dropped by membership in PNFPG I have continued my NFHR
membership. My passion for the breed and interest in all things FJORD
continues.
Having strong negative feelings about Libby's notorious contamination
was primary in my decision to withdraw from PNFPG. An anti-Libby voice was
as likely to get serious consideration as the success of growing orchids or
bananas in the Northern Steppes of Europe. In addition to the toxic
environment the Libby facilities provided poor weather protection for
horses.
Now; reading the Digest makes me think a new, progressive movement is
afoot (or is it ahoof). Serious consideration of moving the Libby Show to a
more accessible, better quipped facility like Moses Lake, WA. could be a
boon to the promotion of our breed and no doubt contribute to much broader
public awareness and participation. (Obviously, some folks feel quite
differently; hence the mean spirited lapel button I saw that said something
to the effect of LIBBY IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT LEAVE IT!).
I'm glad to see that PNFPG will be sponsoring their 2nd Annual Spring
Clinic Weekend in Moses Lake this May and considering a truly International
Fjord Show in the fall. It was gratifying to see various PNFPG members
making clinics and other events available this past summer. Consequently, I
intend to rejoin the group and help out!
In summary: for too long PNFPG has been only about the Libby Show. Times
and needs are a'changin'. The organization should do much more (including
trail riding and reaching out to youth organizations). If Nordicfest is
someone's passion, so be it. Take your horse(s), be in the parade, and put
on demonstrations. (and, just to be safe, maybe wear a mask.)
