We came from the AQHA, IBHA and ABRA organizations. Still own horses triple registered from those breeds. Our family used to show, enjoy the competition and fellowship. However the "winning at all cost" attitude soured us. I have an amazing gelding who sustained a fractured pelvis during a show, at the hands of trainers (in this case) who used drugs to cover up some lameness. (lameness we didn't even know about). The gelding took a hard fall (at a 4 day show, I couldn't attend), while running barrels and poles, while receiving high doses of Bute (and goodness knows what else) at the hands of the trainer. To this very day the trainer insists she was doing "what was best for the horse". I contend she was doing what was best for her and her business. A $2.00 ribbon some breed points and a "title" is not worth what she did (or allowed to happen) to our beautiful gelding or to our daughter who rode him. The horse now stands at home with a healed fracture to his pelvis. He gets around ok, but is severely off at the trot. He loved to show and would do anything for "his girl" (in or out of the show pen). They were/still are an amazing team. It breaks my heart that someone would compromise all the potential those two shared, for little or nothing. We haven't been back to the show pen since. Please, Please, Please don't let drugging and/or unethical competition seed into the amazing Fjord breed. I could never support another breed organization that would allow that to happen. Drug test, vet check, do what needs to be done, to assure the animals stay at the top of the priority list, not those who want to "cheat" in any way for their own gains, points, a $2 ribbon or a title. winona photos
This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] i have managed to upload some of the photos i took at winona, so far just the saturday night dancing with fjords program.wonderful show!! i apologize for some of the images, as i have said the lighting in there is quite difficult, and since i was not in the ring, i had to use a telephoto and a high film speed setting. it caused some graininess in some, and others have a lot of motion.i kind of like that look, since it gives an idea of the speed they were moving. anyhow, i am still working on the stallions and the rest of the show. livinginoz.smugmug.com laurie, and oz The FjordHorse List archives can be found at: http://tinyurl.com/rcepw
