Fjord in parade

Our mare Joline pulling a cart in our Wilkeson (Washington) Days parade
21Jul07.

Canons, souped up lawnmowers and tractors, giant vehicles, police cars and
fire engines with sirens going, and screaming kids didn't phase her.

The only thing that got her attention was when a Jenny decided to bray next
to her.
The look on her face is pricelessWhat in the heck is that???)

Vindication AGAIN for my mare and trainer.

Joline was driven by our trainer, Bonnie Morris of Shadow Mountain Stables
and her intern. I followed in a golf cart to take pix and clean up any
leftovers from the roadway.

What say you Libby 2006 nay-sayers??? Eat your words. Apologies anyone??
My You Tube ID is Fjordlover. There is a great video of our two new pups
rough-housing there too.

 Hi folks,

I'm looking at a trails west trailer, which is a steel trailer but the
steel is galvanized, and painted with the auto paint process so
presumedly resists rust (I would assume about as good as a car does).
Steel is quite a bit cheaper than aluminum so I can buy more features
for the dollar, but of course eventually have to face the rust issue. I
hope to have this trailer for 15 years (using it for mostly local trips
about 3 times a month and several cross country trips per year).

Trails West would be my first choice in steel trailers. They're popular
around here and they seem well built.

I was wondering if any fjord folks have any experience with the trails
west brand? what are your thoughts on the galvanized steel vs
aluminum? I would have to buy a used aluminum trailer to be able to fit
 into my budget.

If you shop around and are patient, you can find a decent used aluminum
trailer.

Also, what stall width do you prefer for the draftier fjords?

Our Fjord fits just fine in the standard stalls in our Silverlite
trailer. If anything, they're a bit too wide (and the TB thinks they're
too small).

Yes Melinda, I would add electric to boards as well.  In fact, especially
board fencing.  If a horse was to lean hard enough to break the boards
you could be looking at a pretty dangerous situation.  Also, even if the
Fjords aren't leaning for food, if they are scratching or rubbing, the
fence boards could break and pop off.  Often too, nails become loose and
exposed.

Just my humble opinion.

I agree with the others about electric fencing. In my experience
  with
Fjords, they really need it and can tell as soon as the fence
  isn't hot

We try to through-bolt our fences, or use big screws that are unlikely to

Hi Victoria,
I use the old macs for my sons appy that has had problems with sole
bruises and abscesses. They are great. Very easy to put on, the comfort
pads provide lots of cushioning and keep him happy. No problem with foot
growth between trims, the boots accommodate tons of size variation. Since
we've been using them he's had no abscesses or bruises at all and we ride
quite alot of rocky trails and hard gravel.

Also, I am considering putting shoes on him, but
really hate metal shoes, and he has been barefoot all
his life. I've considered the Old Mac boots for rides,
but the hoof has to be trimmed just right, doesn't it?
And Einar's hoofs grow really fast. He seems to need
trims about every 4 weeks.

Utah Fjords

2007-07-24 Thread Susan Cargill
This message is from: Susan Cargill [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Lisa Pederson mentioned that she and Jeff have acquired Snow Flyer and Silver
Flyer (both from FC Gwendellin and
Smedsmo Graen). With seven new
possibilities (foals) this spring it became evident that we needed to reduce
the herd
a bit. Snow Flyer is a beautiful young lady who will mature into a
very, very nice mare. Silver Flyer will have the opportunity
to develop into a
promising stud. Only time will tell, Lisa and Jeff will give him that time.
Its always difficult for me to part with one of my fjords but I know that they
will have the best of care and excellent training.
The Pederson's also
acquired Anvil's Rethel - who was one of our wheelers. They already own his
full sister Sunn. Ret
is a wonderful horse, very intelligent and has many
excellent skills.

Its always a wonderful feeling when one of our fjords goes
to friends - it still seems like they are still part of the family.

Subject: Pony World's Championship

We just got back from the Pony World's in Denmark,
and I couldn't resist:

- a gallon of gasoline in Denmark: $7.00

- a double cheeseburger with fries:$10.00

- seeing the US Pony Team stand on the podium
to receive the bronze medal: PRICELESS

What a trip! Here were some of the highlights for us,

in no particular order:

- Fantastic weather all week, until Sunday when it
poured all day. But we still got the car out of the
 parking lot.

- Shelly and Tracey each getting a 2nd place ribbon for

 dressage.

- Randy winning the marathon and the individual pairs

gold medal. You should have seen the face of the 2nd
place guy from Germany (Steffen Abicht). He was 0.7
points behind Randy and was NOT happy about it.

- Lisa Stroud having the show of a lifetime. Her best
performance EVER, including a double-clear round and a
2nd place ribbon in cones. She was so surprised and
 very happy.

- Standing in the midst of the US supporters cheering
the bronze medal team winners. We were as loud as
the Germans and Dutch, and that's saying something.

The US team was the only one of the 9 full teams that
 is all-female.

- Getting to meet Di Hayes in person (the British woman
who drove a Hackney Horse to the only double-clear
round in cones at the World's Singles Championship in
Rome last year). Very nice lady.

- Helping Phil Needs and Eric the Farrier cook ribs for
the Nation's Night party. Nothing more American than
Danish baby back ribs! They were a big hit!

- Seeing Claudia DeLorme (Suzy's navigator) make it back
to the show, after being treated in the hospital for
 cracked ribs.

- Realizing that Laurie Astegiano, an experienced fours
driver, holds dual citizenship and could have driven
for either the French or US team. She wisely chose
 the US team.

- The 3 Shetland fours, two of which were cute but silly,
and one of which was cute and kicked major butt
(Aart van de Kamp, Jr., from the Netherlands --
finishing 2nd, 1.7 points behind fellow Dutchman Jan
 de Boer).

- A totally cool four of Fjords, who I think finished
 3rd.

- Danish bread and pastries.

- Hanging out at the US camp all week. Plenty of
drama, tension, beer, diet Coke, and hugs and support

for all the drivers, navigators, and grooms.
