Blue Earth 08 - 09 AND 2010
This message is from: "Pat Holland" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Thank you Patti Jo for your post on the BE show. It was another great show, Again I want to thank everyone who braved the gas pumps and maxed out credit cards to attend. I also want to thank all of you who sponsored classes and the great group of volunteers, whom every year step up and go beyond the call of duty We ended up with 86 horses and over 700 entries. Using an Open Show judge with no political affiliations turned out to a good call. Out of a bit over 100 members attending I had two individuals with issues - so it would be safe to say we had a 98% approval rating? After the show in a private conversation with the judge he said he came away with an enormous appreciation for the Fjord breed and our members in particular, the versatility of the breed, the quality of horses, exhibitors and the family-like atmosphere of the entire show. I believe if we are trying to change the open show worlds opinion about the Fjords we just lite one candle that will burn for a long time. With that said the 08 show is packed away - and I am working on the 09 show as we speak. HOWEVER!!! I am also working on the 2010 show now as well - that is the MWFHC 25th Anniversary Show - which will be at the Blue Earth grounds in conjunction with the 150th Anniversary of the Fairbaught County Fair - the 2nd oldest county fair in Minnesota. I am working with some major national/international corporate sponsors whom share my enthusiasm. I am also working with a national known trainer who will be taking a Fjord - training it - into his act and we will be raffling the Fjord off afterwards - and someone will end up with a very special horse. I wish I could give more details, but I ASSURE you - you will all be surprised and will want to be in Blue Earth in July 2010. This is going to be an event to thank YOU.the exhibitors & volunteers who have supported our humble efforts for 25 years with a show, at the same place, with the same atmosphere and with the same heartfelt "try" - it is important to me to show my appreciation to all you as individuals - who come every year, have attended in the past or always wanted to come. Lastly I cannot end this post without mentioning my family. I've been showing horses for somewhere near 43 years, I have been privileged to have worked as a private trainer with some great horses - and stood in line - in front of some big name trainers - in shows with more entries than there are Fjords in North America. But I have NEVER felt more proud, felt happier, or more accomplished - then when I see Robin in the ring smiling, and Gary laughing - seeing them both showing and having them both there with me it just doesn't get better than that. With Sincere appreciation to all of you, Pat Holland The FjordHorse List archives can be found at: http://tinyurl.com/rcepw
small silly brag
This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] what a fun day at our barn. we held a fun game show, for just the students and boarders. there is a wonderful core of pre and early teens who ride there, and they are good kids. what i find amazing is that they accept me as one of he group, even though i have grandkids younger than some of them. they come over and visit charlie and gizmo, and then tell me all about the fun they had. they will help with chores if i need it, and it's just a lot of fun. so, one of the other "mature" riders and i participated with all these kids in the games..pole weaving, flag race, command class, egg and spoon and such. it was very good for my riding and nerves, since we spent the time between classes riding in front of the barn, and going in and out. and oz is such a crowd favorite, especially with his "piano key" mane haircut. we never got less than 4th, and placed first in command (where the instructor/judge calls gait changes and you have 3 seconds to do it) and, believe it or not, egg and spoon (walk/trot). i think the reason we did that is because we don't neck rein, so we ended up trotting a tight circle. the egg was pretty much staying in the same place as we rode around it LOL... it was great fun, and really is what boarding and riding is all about laurie, and oz, who wondered what the round thing was that fell off at his feet. funny part.the other older rider's horse spent half of time looking back over her shoulder to see what was on the spoon. it was hilarious. ** Get fantasy football with free live scoring. Re: Midge Bites
This message is from: "jen frame" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Hi Emily, Thanks for that info. I too feed Flax to my mare with an allergy to the midge bites. I use Glanzen 3 by horsetech. It helps, but it isn't as magical on my mare as it is on your horse. But I couldn't live without Flax for my horses--without it they would be a mess! I eat Flax too, like you, but made for humans, not horses! My new fjord - Anniken
This message is from: "Sue Clark-Sorger" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Hi All, It has been a while since I posted. After I lost Keswick my gelding and sold my mare to Patty Jo Walter I thought I would never own another fjord, I was 60 this year with a number medical problems, but I have found life without a fjord in it is just not as much fun. Sooo... I have purchased a 5 year old mare named Anniken, she is a half sister to Keswick. I thought I knew all the offspring of King Gjestar II but this mare had not been registered and so I had no idea she existed. Anni has passed her vet check and I am hoping to pick her up at the end of next week. She has just had 2 months of training with a local trainer and I hope to teach her to drive. I have my training cart but had sold everything else and so I have borrowed a harness and saddle. I am so excited and can't wait to get her home. Happy fjording to you all. Re: Midge Bites
This message is from: Emily Wigley <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> what do you do for your Fjords that are allergic to midge bites? I have one Fjord and one non Fjord (Appaloosa) who are allergic to midge bites, but no more trouble after starting them both on a daily supplement of flax seed. I feed Platinum Performance Equine supplement, and it is a flax based Omega-3/vit/min. Last year Nils, now 19, itched his tummy raw and had swollen spots from his allergic reaction to the midges. It's amazing the difference - I haven't seen him on his belly itching one time, and no scabs, no raw spots, and no swellings! Yea!! Platinum is available through vet referral. Read more here: http://www.platinumperformance.com/animal/equine/ Truly amazing stuff! (I eat it too - the animal product is human grade, and it makes me feel brighter and better in general.)
