Re: Planning forYour Pets
This message is from: "Jacquelyn Leuener" NOTE: Sorry, the List server does not allow attachments to messages. This is for everyones protection from nasty stuff which could wreck our computers sneaking in as an attachment. Not only did the server strip the attachment, but it rejected the entire message which is why I can add this note before approving it for distribution to the List. Thanks for the information Jacquelyn, the server would have no problem if you simply copied your document and pasted it into a message as text. Hello-I have to chime in on the comments about Wills etc. I have been in estate planning for 10 years and have attached a report regarding pet provisions (if Steve will permit this?) No one likes to talk about the inevitable.death, taxes and the legacy we will leave behind..and yet it is vital to discuss such matters and put in writing your wishes. So I commend those that do have a Will or a Trust with provisions for the pets. Please realize that just a clause or bequest in a WILL in most states MUST go to Probate Court..The absolute best vehicle to make sure your wishes are adhered to and administered properly and privately is a "Revocable Living Trust" And depending on the size of your estate and which state you reside, you may even save your family a gob of money in death taxes and the most important is that it is private and will preserve family unity, if any. In a "Living Trust" you can name alternates as the caregivers of your animals and your designated Successor Trustee and Power of Attorney (usually the same person is names) is bound by law to make sure it happens. Or you could set up a FBO account for the eventual care of the herd. There are many types of trusts to help and protect a particular situation or asset. One example is a trust designed to hold just a life insurance policy or a SNT (special needs trust). There isn't any stand alone" Pet Trust" to my knowledge but pet provisions are drafted into an existing estate planning document. You would be amazed at the mess left behind when improper or NO planning was done at all. I see it everyday. The biggest problem in estate planning is the "P" word...it is not Probate but...Procrastination. Take care allHappy Easter -Jacquelyn in Nevada where it is excellent spring skiing in Tahoe and excellent shedding weather too:) [demime 1.01d removed an attachment of type application/msword which had a name of To My Dog Lucky.doc] Important FjordHorse List Links: Subscription Management: http://tinyurl.com/5msa7e FH-L Archives: http://tinyurl.com/rcepw Classified Ads: http://tinyurl.com/5b5g2f

Re: Fjord Mules in response to Mike's message
This message is from: "Jo Wilgus" I believe this rule applies in dogs too. I had a friend who had a Corgi. her female went and got herself in trouble with a non Corgi boy. My friend said she had to have them aborted and not tell anyone due to this very deal about crossbreeding. I agree. I am not sure about the what or why but the breed registry must have a reason. Jo Wilgus Gavilan Hills, CA The rule that pertains says: * In the interest of protecting the genetic purity and the highest standards of the Fjord horse, we will withdraw from the Norwegian Fjord Horse Registry any mare or stallion that is used for crossbreeding with another breed or species. Violators will have their membership suspended and will lose all membership privileges including registration, transfer of horses and any voting rights. The names of owners and horses will be placed on the suspended list. Recognizing that by its very nature, a breed association is dedicated to preserving the breed, is there actually a formal policy about Fjord mules? If someone breeds them intentionally, can they be banned from the NFHR? Can a mare be "unregistered?" Yes they can be unregistered. Horse A Rama
This message is from: "Dave and Patti Walter" Just have to brag, last weekend was Horse A Rama, horse fair here in Manitowoc WI. I took 2 Fjords in and we had a total of 6 in our demo. Ali Austin-Peterson rode her gelding Arne, Karin Peterson rode her mare Emmie, Wendy SORRY forgot her last name, friend of Karen and Ali, last minute fill in. She rode Farley, Karin's gelding. Kathy Blaszczyk(we call her Kathy B, buy a vowel K) rode her gelding Olaf, Judy Gump rode My Gelding Voss, and I rode Giz, a horse in training here, a gelding. We called ourselves the Go-Go's (Girls only , Geldings only) I considered Karin's mare a "girl". Just NO MEN OR NO STUD. WE HAD A BLAST. We performed in a drill team pattern to the music of the Go-Go's, Go Fish and Newsboys. Only minor screw ups and considering the FIRST TIME ALL SIX ON HORSE BACK practiced it was THAT MORNING. We did REALLY WELL!! We had two LAST minute horse/rider cancellations, so it was amazing we pulled it off as good as we did. I'm bragging 2 fold. First, FJORDS ARE AWESOME. They were soo well behaved, we had TIGHT Moves and you would have sworn they all were pastured together and knew each other. None were sassy or naughty, we had a FULL house, they did "look" at the audience but none spooked or did anything silly. They all looked like they did this ALL the time. Second, it's just sooo nice to have a GREAT group of riders. Everyone in our group was just FUN, NICE, COOPERATIVE, WILLING and put up with me telling them what to do all weekend. :-) I wanted a whistle, but they drew the line at that. :-) Sonow that is done, I have to figure out our pattern for Madison. Opps, sorry Nancy, Dawn, Pat. ya I don't have it done yet! RE: fjord/mule
This message is from: "Teressa" "Good grief! Hope he is done with his "experiment"!" I expect not. He has this nice fjord mare who is pasture bred with this ugly black donkey and as far as I can tell, they're both out there again this spring. We have a double fence between their pasture and ours - agreed upon with the donkey owner - its funny, the fence he built is welded stainless steel - I think my neighbor knew I meant what I said if his donkey got in with my girls! When the Danes visited my home (the Danes who are fjord people who came to our show last summer), one of the side show attractions was the fjord mules next door. When my mares are out in the pasture, the poor fjord mare next door comes right to the fence with a look on her face that says (to me, anyway), "these are not my people". So all the mules follow her. The Danes got an eyeful of fjord mules - fat as satiated ticks, little feet and legs, big ears, and all. They were fascinated, grimly fascinated, but unable to look away. The mule foal of last summer actually had a very pretty fjord head. I wonder if its temperament was fjord or mule? I'll have to ask my neighbor if he's taking notes. Re: DECALS?
This message is from: Karen Keith If you have any talent working with images on the computer, you can make your own decals from your own artwork or photos. They sell decal "paper" in the office supply section of Walmart, right next to the iron-on transfer stuff. Work with your image or find one you like (be sensitive to copyright), and print your own decal. May not last as long as a professionally made decal, but hey, you can always print a new one as needed. Cheers! Karen, Northern Virginia > > I went to our small community Expo on Sunday. Re: Musings on my Fjordies, unwanted horses, etc. Breeding Issue
This message is from: "Jo Wilgus" Paula, I sure do agree with you on breeding. I am not a breeder but if i were I would think seriously about breeding in this economy. Last year a couple let their horses they adopted go in the hills. They were getting a divorce and neither could afford them. They were rounded up and placed ,but the bottom line is it is tough out there right now. With so many "unable to keep" animals in the country people may want to rethink their reasons for breeding. Glad we have just the 2 Fjords. Funny, our friends say, " you guys have many empty stalls, you should fill them." This is true but when you put a warm body in them they require care. Plus Regn would get jealous if Mommy showed too much attention to another horse. Hee, hee, hee. Jo Wilgus Gavilan Hills, CA . If I were a breeder I would have to think deeply before making breeding decisions at this time...
