Coming out of lurkdom...

2009-07-27 Thread Sonja Miller
This message is from: Sonja Miller

I guess it's time for a major lurker to finally come out and join the list.
I have been reading the posts on the digest pretty much every day for the
past 3 years. I love learning anything and everything about fjords and am
constantly looking for any info I can find regarding bloodlines, breeders,
and other things of interest. I figured I might as well join so I can
finally interact with all the fine fjord owners out there.

So here goes the introduction part: I am a 22 year old from SW Minnesota,
and I recently received my B.A. in Biology. I am applying to vet school this
fall with the goal of becoming an equine vet. My mom and I own 7 horses, 5
of which are fjords. Our fjord herd is made up of BDF Kapprell (Kappy),
Nor-Fin's Ulf, Kjor Liberty (Frihet), Zjeena ,and Fair Acres Alida. Our
non-fjords include one paint and one ancient shire. We have only owned
horses for 3.5 years, but have come leaps and bounds in that time. We have
met many wonderful people, including Patti Jo, who got us together with
Kappy and Alida, and Kathy Johnson, who previously owned Kappy and has been
very kind to us.

We ride and drive our fjords for fun, and also use them in our therapy
program. My parents and I run a non-profit organization called Reinbows,
Inc. (www.reinbowsinc.org), which provides therapy to at-risk youth and the
elderly. The fjords are perfect for this program. They absolutely adore the
kids, and vice versa. It really is a cool thing to be involved in, even
though I'm much better with horses than I am with kids!

Made it to the breed show in Blue Earth for just one day this year. I have
been going for the past 4 years, and it is so much fun to watch. Everyone
did a great job. I meant to get a couple of our horses there, but the summer
ended up being much busier than I anticipated. I at least got a show packet
this year, which was one step closer than I've gotten before. Instead of
showing I sat in the bleachers and talked fjords to anyone who dared sit
close enough to me ; )

Looking forward to being a member of this list,

Sony Miller

Re: fjordhorse-digest V2009 #144

2009-07-27 Thread BKFJORDS
This message is from: bkfjo...@aol.com

Hello,

Our Circus friends performed in the Circus at Milwaukee and came here
afterward for a one week stay. Their two girls had a great time brushing and
riding our Fjords. And brushing and riding!!!

Anyway, they said that due to lack of volunteers, the Circus Wagons rode in
semis and flatbeds this year in place of trains. A disappointment to
many, I am sure. I attended the parade three years ago, and there were many
different breeds of horses represented.

BTW, I still have my Sierokoski Wagonette for sale!!! Great for taking
the family for rides, and showing. Email me for more information.

Here in Michigan, we are waiting for the rain to stop so we can cut hay.
