Jim,

I am so sorry for your loss. My first horse died in 2009, she and I had 27 yrs
together. It's always hardest to lose that special friend. I hope you will
allow another to fill your heart.

Freds words are true and I keep those thoughts in my mind. We will meet our
beloved horses again.

Godspeed Ranec... Valhalla awaits.

Dear Jim,
I don't know you or your precious Ranec but I sit here crying. I do
know the love you share with your precious boy. There are no words
but maybe this song will ease some of the pain. God bless. Wind to

I know the 'old folks' of the fjord horse in North America are
still here, so I wanted to let you know that my special boy passed
today. Colic got the best of him.

I posted this on facebook, a few sentences that tell you of the
special bond he and I had. He was my first horse, I got him at 40
years old, had him for 11 years. He absolutely knew he was on this
earth to teach me the love of horses. He succeeded in his
 objective. I'm am heartbroken.

Yep, he was a special horse. I would lay on my back underneath him
and clip his belly. He would stand like a rock. I know Ranec would
die to protect me, I mean it when he was afraid to die and leave me
alone - not because he loved me, but because he thought he had to
protect me. We spent the day together, I honestly knew around lunch
time it was the end, we spent the afternoon walking and talking,
but he wasn't sure I would be ok without him, so he fought hard. We
talked with our vet about options, and watched him. I told our vet
he was dying, she couldn't hardly believe it, but she knew he was.
He continued to fight while laying down, me hugging his neck and
head. I whispered to him I'll be all right Ranec, thank you for
our time together and I felt him exhale and that was it.

You are so kind to share those moments of your life together so eloquently.
Must admit I have tears in my eyes; that doesn't happen often. The Fjord
community can be so powerful: a family where you may never meet most of your
human and horse relations, but nonetheless with a bond. Grieve well.

I have tears, I have been through this too, so sad!
here is a poem that I love:

Don't Cry for the Horses

Don't cry for the horses that life has set free
A million white horses forever to be.
Don't cry for the horses now in God's hands.
As they prance and they dance in a heavenly band.

They were ours as a gift, but never to keep.
As they close their eyes forever to sleep.
Their spirits unbound. On silver wings they fly.
A million white horses against the blue sky.

Look up into heaven, you'll see them above.
The horses we lost, the horses we loved.
Manes and tails flowing they gallop through time.
They were never yours, they were never mine.

Don't cry for the horses. They'll be back someday.
When our time is gone, they will show us the way.
Do you hear that soft nicker? Close to your ear?
Don't cry for the horses, love the ones that are here.

I am so very sorry to hear of your loss. Each of us has lost a dear friend
like that. We do indeed feel your pain. If we are lucky, we have that ONE
great horse in our lives to treasure. You were so blessed to have him as
your friend. My great friend is Dusty who is 28 years young. I am not
looking forward to the day when he crosses that Rainbow Bridge, but I also
know that it will happen sooner than later. Hugs for you.
